  • Rasheed Sulaimon Excited for Duke Visit

    Rasheed Sulaimon will get a two-for-one on Wednesday night.

    That’s when the 6-foot-4, 180-pound Houston Strake Jesuit shooting guard will be in Durham, N.C. to watch the first North Carolina-Duke game of the season at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

    “Me and my family are looking forward to seeing a great game,” he said by phone from Houston. “Both schools are recruiting me. This is the best time for us to go. We’re just going to go there expecting a great game, a great atmosphere.”

    The No. 4 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 according to Rivals, Sulaimon will take an unofficial with his parents, Kenny and Angela. At this point, he is the only recruit Duke is expecting, meaning the staff can fully focus on him. The family will be on campus until Thursday afternoon.

    Duke landed a commitment earlier Monday from another 2012 product, 6-8 small forward Alex Murphy of South Mark’s (Mass.).

    Asked about Internet rumblings that he might verbally pledge while at Duke, Sulaimon said, “No, sir. It’s just another visit to a school that I’m interested in. I wanted my family to experience the campus also. North Carolina is recruiting me also. At some time I’m going to look to make a visit there.”

    Sulaimon said his current list includes the two Tobacco Road powers, as well as Georgetown, Arizona and a trio of Texas schools, Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor.

    “I just want to make the best choice,” he said. “I’m not really too fixed on the location. I’m just looking for a school that will fit me the best.”

    Sulaimon currently averages 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals, according to MaxPreps.

    “I’ll just bring a guy who’s hardworking, who can play pressure defense and is willing to do whatever coach asks me,” he said. “Be a great teammate and a great leader.”

    After the Duke visit, Sulaimon plans to focus on his high school season and leading Houston Strake deep into the state playoffs.

    “After this visit, I’m going to concentrate on the basketball season because the playoffs are coming up soon,” he said.

    “My team is doing really well. We’re 23-3 and three games from winning Districts.”

    Sulaimon will resume taking visits after the season and says he has no timetable on a decision.

    “I’ll start visiting after the season again,” he said.

    “Right now I don’t really have a timetable. I’m just going off a feeling thing. If I feel likeĀ  I like a school and I discuss it with my parents, then I’ll make the commitment then.”
