Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck joked that he wants Andrew Wiggins in this year’s NBA Draft.
“NBA commish Adam Silver, speaking at BC event, notes two Canadians on Celtics roster. C’s owner Wyc Grousbeck shouts, ‘Wiggins next year,'” Kevin Armstrong of the Daily News Tweeted.
In the Tankathon standings, the Celtics currently are tied with the Lakers and Kings for the fourth-worst record in the NBA. Boston has two first-round picks.
Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Orlando have the three worst records.
After his 41-point outburst in a loss to West Virginia, Wiggins’ stock is now rising again and he could be the No. 1 overall pick.
“With [Joel] Embiid’s back ailing and Wiggins continuing to show signs of picking up his game he’s the obvious choice [for No. 1],” ESPN’s Chad Ford said in an online discussion. “Even before the injury to Embiid, some scouts and GMs were moving back onto the Wiggins bandwagon. There is just sooooo much potential there and he’s showing signs of understanding it. If he takes over for Kansas the next few weeks, he may be the No. 1 pick even if Embiid gets 100 percent healthy.”
