Wiggins Cancels In-Home Visits

Andrew Wiggins has cancelled his in-home visits this week with North Carolina, Kansas and Florida State.

The 6-foot-7 Wiggins was to have met today with Roy Williams, Tuesday with Bill Self and Wednesday with Leonard Hamilton.

“He will be doing them by phone,” Huntington (W.V.) Prep coach Rob Fulford told SNY.tv. “He’s drained and didn’t want to meet.

“There is no timetable. He’s not back from Portland. He has had two flights cancelled.”

The NCAA Recruiting period ends Wednesday, and a Quiet Period starts Thursday. After Wednesday, he can’t do any off-campus contact visits.

After playing in the Hoop Summit Saturday night, Wiggins told reporters he was looking forward to taking a break.

“I’m looking forward to shutting down for a couple of days, getting some rest, getting some ‘me’ time and just chilling with my friends and cherish the last few days I have of summer before it all gets crazy,” he told Michael Grange of sportsnet.ca. “I’ve been travelling for like three weeks straight so I’m just looking forward to being able to relax and watch TV for hours for hours and lay in my bed for hours and just be me.”

Wiggins already met with Kentucky coach John Calipari before the McDonald’s All-American Game, but it remains unclear if this latest decision means he has settled on Kentucky.

The projected No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Wiggins can sign a Letter of Intent until May 15, or he could opt to wait until after that to sign scholarship papers.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

They didn't once mention "going insane and blowing your brains out or committing a murder-suicide" as a potential retirement risk.

That's a big missed opportunity, Onion.

Signing Denarius Moore or some other veteran FA WR sounds like Maccagnan leaning towards passing on WR in the first round to me.

And one more would make if four.  You have a couple of young guys as well.

It would seem to indicate an edge guy is the player Todd Bowles probably wants and Mac might be inclined to agree with,  if Mariota is either not there or gone.

I think (or maybe I just hope) that Denarius Moore and his career 50% catch rate and hopefully small, Antonio Garay-ish contract wouldn't preclude us from taking a WR at R1#6 (or any of our other picks, for that matter).

Moore is the kind of guy you sign in March for depth and cut in August when you realize he's no better than the youngsters you have.

Hopefully.  I like those top two rated WR's and hope they are under consideration at 6.

A speed WR would compliment the trio we now have and I could see an edge player being something a guy like Bowles would be leaning towards anyway. His defense is similar to Rex and I'm thinking most defensive coaches want more defense when the draft rolls around.

The need for speed at WR is probably something we can more easily address somewhere in the draft than in FAcy.   Lots of fast receivers in this draft, and most of them won't cost us a first round pick.

(puts Denarius Moore in that "other WRs" group that he's talking about)

Owusu and graham aren't fast enough...

I'm disappointed in the parents of draft prospect Jay Ajayi. If only they had named him Iyaj instead, he could have been a palindrome.

NOT for NUTTIN Dept:

But, when everyone was saying Bowles was going to address the QB/Offense first, I insisted that Macc&Bowles WILL be working on the Secondary/DB's FIRST.....NOT the Offense!!!

Now remember who was right all along kiddies because I'm getting tired of reminding you !!!

@Hanknaples

Uh, Bowles said they would be addressing the defense in FA...what are you talking about?

Plus they did address QB and the offense.

@a57se

He NEVER singled out the offense as his priority...The whole blog did and that is EXACTLY my point !!!

@Joe B. @Hanknaples

not really. ONE voice was screaming about the offense, Bradysucks.

the rest of us were saying the Secondary and the offense both needed to be addressed as well as ILB, OLB and the DL depth.

Hank just plays this selective memory crap for some reason that is beyond my understanding.

@a57se @greggreen

The first move was to nail down Harris!!

And if you guys are equating Marshall as the First SIGNIFICANT move to improve the team....you are NUTS!!!

Marshall was a washout with Marvin ACTUALLY A cap savings !!

Revis/ Cro and Gilchrist was SIGNIFICANT with OVER $150 MILLION REASON$$ to prove it !!!

@a57se @Joe B.

BS and I don't mean Bradysucks either..BS to you 57 because you have been screaming about Winston from day ONE....who has the selective memory Mr. Mensa???

@a57se

WRONG....In his first interview he said...and I quote "I will have my finger print in all three phases ...Defense, Offense and Special Teams" !!!

@Wayne Redfield @Hanknaples

It doesn't matter that much because the first veteran player he addressed was Calvin Pace. The bigger issue is that the jets are not be prepared for what could be an issue with flexibility on defense. We could have a complacent Darrelle Revis. The other two free agent cornerbacks provide a promise note to the fans and to the team. That this season will be different and there will not be a mistake with leaving the cornerback position thin. This is why you need a vision for your defense and team first. The defensive line is still not dominating the way it should be. The strongest on that defensive line will survive. The secondary has improved talent however the flexibility on the defense comes from the players and how they fit the vision. This is why the jets should bring back Bryan Thomas and Vernon Gholston.

Not officially....the magic date for all FA contracts was 3/10.

But if you want the nitty gritty...Bowles and Macc knew that Harvin was GOOOONE wayyyyyy before !!!

Assuming we can't get Winston and Mariota is gone too...I would love the following draft:

R1P6 Randy Gregory OLB

R2P5 Melvin Gordon RB

R3P6 Phillip Dorsett WR

R4P5 Taiwan Jones ILB

R7 P6 Tyeler Davison DT

R7 P7 Kyle Loomis P

@tsjc68 @a57se

You grouped players by rounds, did you not?

That is predictive in the sense that that is the draft value YOU place on them.

You are now placing draft value on guys that I said I would LIKE for us to get but that I wasn't being practical about.

I take your draft value with a grain of salt as your chart last year wasn't close to what the NFL deemed most players worth.

a57se
a57se

@tsjc68 @a57se

yeah, I doubt gordon falls to us...

I could swap out Anthony for jones and take Coleman in the third then Lockett in the 4th but I wasn't trying to be practical here.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@a57se @tsjc68

Things I doubt will happen (although, crapshoot, so, whatevs):

-I don't think Melvin Gordon will still be there at R2#37

-I don't think Stephone Anthony will still be there at R4#104

-I don't think Tevin Coleman will still be there at R3#70

-I don't think Kevin Lockett will be there at R4#104 (but that seems most likely of the four)

tsjc68
tsjc68

@a57se @tsjc68

The chart I produced last year wasn't a prediction of whom would go where, though, a point that has been explained to you multiple times.

If I make one this year, it also will NOT be a prediction of who will go where.

The draft values I place on them ≠ the draft values I expect 32 NFL teams to place on them

I wouldn't take Johnny Manziel before R5, because doing so is stupid.

Cleveland was stupid, because they're Cleveland and that's what they do.  I anticipated that, but that doesn't change the fact that I value him in R5.

Me saying "I think Player X won't be available at Pick Y" here on this board ≠ how I value them on my board for the Jets
