Wiggins Turning it On, Goes for Career-High 29

Reports of Andrew Wiggins’ demise may have been premature.

The Kansas freshman went off for a career-high 29 points and 7 rebounds Wednesday as No. 6 Kansas beat No. 16 Iowa State, 92-81.

The Canadian sensation is now averaging 24.3 points in his last three games for the Jayhawks (16-4, 7-0 Big 12).

“That is scary; with that athleticism, that length and that speed, the kid’s got it all,” Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said. “When he’s knocking down shots, (there are) not too many better.”

The Big 12 Newcomer of the week opened the week with 17 points against Baylor, including 11 points in the second half. Wiggins then went for  27 points, including 19 in the first half, in a win over TCU.

“He has played well against Iowa State,” one veteran NBA scout said of Wiggins. “[Joel] Embiid still goes ahead of him in the Draft….He is a center, which is harder to find.”

Said a second NBA scout: “[Wiggins] and his teammate have the best upside – 1-2.”

Asked who he would take No. 1, the second scout said, “I still say Wiggins, but most people like the big fella.”
