6-10 Daniel Giddens to Ohio State

Ohio State was always the leader for 6-foot-10 Daniel Giddens of Each 1 Teach 1 and Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler.

And on Thursday, Giddens made it official, pledging to the Buckeyes over Kansas, Georgia, Arizona, Indiana and Florida. Giddens posted an Instagram photo of himself in a Buckeyes T-shirt and hat.

“I talk to them every week; twice, three times a week maybe. There is a great relationship with Coach [Thad] Matta,” Giddens told SNY.tv recently. “They just [have] really told me how they are going to use me in the system.”

Matta sees him as a David West-type player. West played for Matta at Xavier from 2001-2003.

“They want me to be their power forward guy,” Giddens said. “They just want me to come in and fill a role for them, they are losing three people.”

The No. 55 player in the Class of 2015 according to ESPN.com, Giddens is Ohio State’s fourth 2015 commit. He joins point guard AJ Harris of Dayton, Ohio, Texas shooting guard Austin Grandstaff and point-forward Mickey Mitchell, the brother of former OSU linebacker Mike Mitchell.

The Buckeyes have also added two key transfers this offseason in fifth-year senior Anthony Lee of Temple and 7-foot Virginia Tech freshman Trevor Thompson.

Beating up Gaborik wasn't the problem; the rest of the Rangers standing around and watching was.

I'd rather Avery come out of retirement if they could coax him to do so. Far better skater. Far better player in all respects. Better fighter (beat Carcillo a few times, in fact). Beloved by Ranger fans. Or just bring up Haley. Better player, and FAR better fighter. I see no point to acquiring Carcillo. None. Hopefully his tenure here is as short as Brashear's was.

I heard Sather is also trying to acquire Matt Cooke.

I would have brought up Asham and/or Bickel (yes, Stu Bickel) before this POS

@savedoctor hahahahahaha Avery still doesn't know what offsides is and won't help this team is any aspect of hockey.  He did more to stop the offense than create any in his last tenure with the Rangers, and not to mention the refs took his ability to agitate away by giving him a matching penalty when he drew one.  If you want Avery back you want to watch an actual last place team and not just a team that plays like one every other night.

Hate Carcillo all you want but don't use it as an excuse to bring back someone who fills absolutely no need on this team. Just as an FYI over the past 3 seasons in the NHL Carcillo has played only 77 games, (so don't exactly expect him to be in the lineup every night) and has 5 goals.  Avery only had 6 goals over his final 91 games in the NHL, and was offsides on 87% of line rushes.  Ok that last number was made up but he was offsides like 7 times a game which is impressive for a guy playing less 12 minutes a game.

That's not an option. He's out of hockey for good and even if it was an option, there's no way he's in hockey shape. Like it or not. This is the next best thing. The guy has been in the trenches and with him and Dorsett on the 4th line, I like the lineup.

Haley will also fight. He's not the biggest guy but he would scrap.

Stu Bickel doesn't put any fear (at all) in anyone's eyes in the entire nhl and is a waste of good minutes. Especially up front... Asham is a shell of the mediocre player he once was... Yes, in a perfect world I personally would have loved Chris Neal or someone similar, but that wasn't gonna happen. The rangers are a bunch of pansies and the only guy with any balls is like 5'6". This move HAD to happen because we can't have Kreider fighting... He needs to score goals.

Agreed, but AV wants to roll 4 lines. I'd take carcillo's 10 minutes a game over Haley's 2...

@nyr28 I agree with you. I also think Ottawa might have given up Neil in a Del Zotto trade. Not sure if the team looked into that.

I don't think Ottawa is willing to part with Neil. They love him. Just like the rangers and their fans would love him if he wore the blue sweater...
