GALLOWAY, N.J. — Abdul Malik Abu and Jared Terrell of Expessions Elite both cut their lists on Thursday.
The 6-foot-8 Abu lists St. John’s, UCLA, Providence, UConn, Iowa State, Miami, Kentucky, Kansas State, Florida and N.C. State.
UCLA just recently offered Abu this week.
Abu, who continues to play the July live period while fasting for Ramadan, plans to cut it again to five schools in the fall.
“Yeah in the fall, so I can take my officials,” Abu told SNY.tv at “Live in AC.”
The 6-2 Terrell listed Florida, UConn, Cincinnati, Providence, Miami, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, UCLA, Rhode Island and Xavier. Oklahoma State just offered this week.
UConn head coach Kevin Ollie and Rhode Island head coach Dan Hurley sat courtside to watch the duo play Thursday, along with assistants from Providence, Florida, St. John’s and N.C. State.
Providence and UConn are among the schools that have worked extremely hard on the duo all summer.
“They’re hard recruiters, especially the head coaches, not just the assistants,” Terrell said. “They text us a lot, talk to us a lot. We just keep an eye out for them and they keep an eye out for us.”
Asked how much the head coaches following them would make a difference, Terrell said:
“It’s going to play a big part making my decision that they’re here and they can see me play eye to eye and not just hearing from somebody else or one of their recruiters.”
He may take a few visits this summer.
“I might take a couple this summer but I’m not definite on that,” he said. “The majority I’ll take in the fall before school starts and before basketball starts.”
It’s possible the duo could package at UConn, Providence or St. John’s but they’re not married to it.
“We conversate about it,” Terrell said. “We just want to go where we fit the best and the best situation for us. But we don’t want to force it and maybe the situation is best for him and not for me and vice versa.
“We just want to go where we are going to have our shine and where it’s going to be the best for one another.”
