The Big Ten won the ACC/Big Ten Challenge 8-6, but the ACC closed strong winning 4 of 6 games on Wednesday.
The ACC hasn’t won the event since 2008, with the Big Ten winning from 2009-11 and now again in 2014. The two leagues tied in 2012 and ’13.
This year’s event expanded to 14 games with the additions of Rutgers and Maryland to the Big Ten.
The marquee game took place Wednesday night when Jahlil Okafor and No. 4 Duke shot 65 percent from the field and downed Frank Kaminsky and No. 2 Wisconsin, 80-70 in Madison, Wisc.
Okafor went for 13 points and 6 rebounds in the win, while Kaminsky had 17 and 9.
Duke freshman point guard Tyus Jones led the Blue Devils with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rasheed Sulaimon added 14 points and Quinn Cook 13.
Traveon Jackson led all scorers with 25 for Wisconsin.
Duke has won more games in the event than any other team, taking 14 of its 16 matchups with its only two losses coming at Wisconsin (2009) and at Ohio State (2011).
***In another matchup of Top 25 teams, No. 7 Virginia beat No. 21 Maryland, 76-65, behind Malcolm Brogdon’s 18 points, Justin Anderson’s 16 and Mike Tobey’s 14.
Maryland got 16 points from Melo Trimble, 14 from Jake Layman and 12 from Dion Wiley.
***In South Bend, Ind., Notre Dame outlasted Michigan State, 79-78, in OT behind Jerian Grant’s career-best 27 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds and Demetrius Jackson’s 22 points.
Branden Dawson had 16 points and 18 boards in the loss, Sparty’s second straight.
