NEW YORK — After recently taking trips to UCLA, Duke and North Carolina, Brandon Ingram has several more visits in the works.
The 6-foot-8 2015 forward from Kinston (N.C.) High told SNY.tv after Thursday’s Under Armour Elite 24 practice that he plans to attend Midnight Madness at both Kansas on Oct. 10 and Kentucky Oct. 17. He also wants to hit Louisville.
“I know [in] October I’ll be at Kansas [for] ‘Late Night in the Phog,'” Ingram said. “I know I’ll get out to Kentucky. Louisville I want to get out there, too, after I cut down my list at the end of the month. While I’m in Louisville, I can go over to Kentucky.”
Ingram plans to cut hist list to seven by the end of August.
Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, UConn, Wake Forest, Florida, Louisville, UCLA, Clemson and N.C. State are all in the mix, but Ingram seems to have indicated Kentucky, Kansas and Louisville will all make the cut.
UCLA, Duke and North Carolina all seem to be firmly in the mix, too.
Ingram, who plays for the Stackhouse Elite AAU program, has been linked to North Carolina and recently took another unofficial visit there.
“It was pretty good,” he said. “I got a good relationship with Coach Roy Williams and [assistant] Steve Robinson, so it’s always good to get out there and just good times when you go with the Tar Heel family.”
Ingram said despite the fact that Stackhouse is a former Tar Heel, he’s not directing Ingram to his alma mater.
“We have a very serious relationship, me and Jerry almost talk every day,” he said. “He was my AAU coach and he was my very good mentor but he doesn’t influence me to go to North Carolina. He just influences me to go the school that will be a fit for me.
“He wants me to take some more visits, actually sit down in the classroom and see how the school is and see where my comfor zone is which each school.”
Ingram also recently visited Carolina’s arch-rival, Duke.
“It was pretty good,” he said. “The first practice was very intense. I was impressed with a lot of the freshmen, especially Justise Winslow, very strong. It was just a great thing to see. Coach K is a down to earth guy.”
UCLA is also making a strong run, and Ingram visited the campus with Thon Maker and Jaylen Brown after Adidas Nations.
“It was pretty good,” he said. “It was my first time in L.A. and UCLA i s very good place, a lot of scenery there,” he said. “It was a good place, talking to [head coach] Steve Alford and me and [assistant] David Grace are developing a good relationship.”
Ingram has a home visit with the Bruins slated for Sept 12.
