NEW YORK — Anthony Davis may not be playing in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game because of a shoulder injury, but he is making the most of his All-Star appearance here.
He spent Friday morning as a guest on ESPN’s “Mike and Mike,” where he later Tweeted, “Can confirm the rumors that ESPN is considering a switch to the Mike and Mike and AD in Morning Show.”
Davis covered a number of topics on the show, including answering the question of who would win if Davis’ 2012 NCAA title team faced the currently unbeaten No. 1 Wildcats.
“We’d destroy them,” Davis said, according to the Herald-Leader.
Later, when speaking on Media Day, I asked Davis if he the current team can go unbeaten en route to the NCAA title.
“They have a chance,” Davis said. “I think so. They just gotta go out there and compete.”
Davis is one of five former Wildcats participating in various All-Star Weekend festivities.
Davis and John Wall were selected to the NBA All-Star Game as starters while DeMarcus Cousins will make his first career appearances as a reserve. Nerlens Noel, who is in his rookie season in the NBA after sitting out last year while he recovered from knee surgery, was selected to the Rising Stars Challenge. Brandon Knight will participate in the Skills Challenge.
Davis led the West frontcourt in fan voting with 1,369,911 to start in the All-Star Game. Only Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Cleveland’s LeBron James received more votes. At age 21, Davis would have been the youngest starter in this year’s game. A breakout performer in this third-season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis is averaging 24.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He leads the NBA in player efficiency rating and is among the league leaders in double-doubles.
“We just go out there and compete,” Davis said of the Kentucky players. “Kentucky basketball is the best.”
