miller sean 2014 289Arizona coach Sean Miller will replace Billy Donovan as the head coach of the USA U19 team that will compete this summer in the World Championship, sources told SNY.tv.

The event runs June 27-July 5 in Crete, Greece.

Providence coach Ed Cooley will remain as an assistant, with one other assistant to be named.

Donovan took the Oklahoma City Thunder job and is no longer in the mix for the U19s. A year ago, he led the U18 team to the gold medal in the FIBA Americas Championship.

Miller will end up coaching a team loaded with talent, potentially including Arizona signee Allonzo Trier, the MVP of the recent Jordan Brand Classic; big man Ivan Rabb, who chose Cal over Arizona this spring; Jaylen Brown, who also picked Cal over several elite schools; and Kentucky-bound point guard Isaiah Briscoe.

Trier told SNY.tv he plans to play in the event. He averaged 12.6 points and shot 62.1 percent from the field last year in the U18 Championship behind only Stanley Johnson (14.0 ppg) and Duke-bound Luke Kennard (13.8 ppg).

Briscoe averaged 8.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Colorado Springs, training and representing my country,” Briscoe told SNY.tv in February. “And then go to Greece.”
