  • Bosnian Forward to Visit St. John’s; 2015 Targets Come Into Focus

St. John’s has been relatively quiet on the recruiting front in recent weeks, but that could start to change soon.

Amar Alibegovic, a 6-foot-9 Bosnian forward who could suit up for the 2014-15 season and whom head coach Steve Lavin recently went to watch, will visit the school the week of Aug. 10, sources told SNY.tv. For more on Alibegovic, read this previous story.

Meantime, St. John’s remains focused on 2015 high school targets Isaiah Briscoe, Cheick Diallo, Tyler Dorsey, Brandon Sampson and Malik Beasley as well as JUCO targets Tanksley Efianayi of Daytona State, Deshawn Freeman of Hutchinson and Andre Spight of South Plains.

The Johnnies likely stand to benefit from the news Sunday that Findlay Prep shooting guard Allonzo Trier committed to Arizona because the Wildcats now have two 2015 guards in Trier and Justin Simon, and may no longer have room to take Briscoe.

Briscoe lists Arizona, St. John’s, Louisville, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Villanova.

The 6-9 Diallo, meantime, is set for an official visit to St. John’s the weekend of their Midnight Madness, Oct. 17.

Sources said the Johnnies hope to sign two players in the fall and three or four in the spring.

As far as 2016 goes, they have made T.J. Gibbs a priority even though they have yet to offer him. Gibbs is Briscoe’s Playaz Basketball Club teammate on a team that won the Peach Jam and the younger brother of Seton Hall guard Sterling Gibbs.
