Former Penn State commit Brandon Austin is down to three schools and could pull the trigger this week.
The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 14-21.
“The three schools that he visited, UConn, Providence and Texas are all in play,” Lonnie Lowry, Austin’s AAU coach, told SNY.tv Sunday.
“I think that he’ll have a decision done probably sometime this week. I would be shocked if he didn’t know something by the end of the week. The signing period starts [Wednesday].”
Lowry broke down the three schools that the 6-foot-5 combo guard is considering:
“UConn, of course [he likes the] tradition they have. They did look good Friday night [against Michigan State] but I mean it’s UConn. Tradition, Big East. It’s not that far compared to Texas. It’s UConn. He likes [Coach] Kevin Ollie. They have had a million pros so all of that is big.
“Providence, Coach [Ed] Cooley. Him and Coach Cooley have developed a rpetty good relationship. Just as far as how he thinks he can help him and help him develop, Brandon is very receptive to it. People have tried to negative recruit by saying they have Kris Dunn and Ricky Ledo. If they have those three [next year], they will be pretty good.”
“Texas, something like UConn. Storied tradition, pretty good, been to the tournament every year. Coach [Rick] Barnes came in. He likes the school. The school’s immaculate. He really, really likes the campus, the school, the area, all that. I think they’ll be pretty good next year. [Without Myck] Kabongo, I don’t know how good they’ll be [this year]. They don’t sound confident.”
