Carolina, Indiana, UConn Among Those After Derrick Jones

North Carolina, Indiana and UConn are some of the new schools recruiting 2015 Radnor (Pa.) Archbishop John Carroll small forward Derrick Jones, his dad told SNY.tv.

North Carolina and UConn have recently offered, while Indiana called to express interest, Derrick Jones Sr. said.

Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, Syracuse, St. John’s, Maryland, Cincinnati, St. Joe’s, Villanova, Penn State, Temple and Kansas State are among those who have already offered the 6-foot-7 Jones.

“Right now everything’s open,” Derrick Jones Sr. said. “He wants to feel everything out and make the best decision for himself.”

Syracuse and Kentucky have been the schools most closely linked to Jones. He was supposed to attend the recent Indiana-Syracuse game but couldn’t make it for travel reasons.

Asked about Syracuse and Kentucky, Derrick Jones Sr., said, “I’m not going to say he doesn’t love them because he does.”

Still, Carolina offered about a month ago and UConn has also offered.

“We’re definitely going to visit up there [UConn] and also UNC threw out an offer as well,” Derrick Jones Sr. said. “North Carolina offered about a month ago.”

As for the Hoosiers, Jones Sr. said assistant Kenny Johnson called to express interest and say Indiana would be watching a “few” of Jones’ games.

“They really wanted to get him to check out the campus,” Jones Sr. said. “Right now we don’t have any date set. We’re preparing for his high school season [which tips Wednesday]. After [the season] we’re going to take a lot of visits.”
