Chandler to Visit Arizona, Oregon, Will Decide Soon

Michael Chandler, the 6-foot-10, 245-pound center from Northwest Florida State, will visit Arizona and Oregon this month and plans to decide by October, his uncle told SNY.tv.

The former Louisville, UCF and Xavier commit has not set dates for the visits but definitely plans on taking them.

“Those two schools are definitely bringing him in for a visit,” Allan Chandler told SNY.tv by phone Friday morning.

“Right now the big fella, his feeling is we’ve done been throught this a lot with the recruiting, we done been through it. Right now he doesn’t want to have to go through all this stuff. He’s going to take his visits and then decide where to go.”

A decision could come quickly after the visits.

“We will be done before October,” Allan said. “He’s only taking these two [visits] and maybe one more. We plan on making a decision by October.”

Arizona assistant Book Richardson and Oregon assistant Tony Stubblefield have been recruiting Chandler for their respective schools.

Arizona is “a nationally known program that gets their bigs involved,” Allan  said. “They also develop their players. Great education. Can’t wait to see the campus.”

As for Oregon, he said: “Oregon is a great program in a great conference. A great education and a good basketball team. Excellent coaches, too.”

UCLA recently called to express interest and it’s possible Chandler could visit there as well.

“I know that UCLA may have offered him [Thursday] night,” Allan said. “We’re going to talk about that to see if maybe that’s a third school that he wants to visit. “

Chandler averaged 4.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 34 games last year, but had several breakout games. He went for 16 points and six rebounds in a win over Chipola, 12 and four against Tallahassee and 15 and eight against Gulf Coast.

“He is very talented and has been playing really well,” Northwest Florida coach Steve DeMeo said. “He finishes everything near the rim and has 15-feet range. His work ethic on the court an din the classroom has been outstanding.”
