In a rare interview, Our Savior New American 2015 big man Cheick Diallo told Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader he is “happy” to have a Kentucky offer and is impressed that new Wildcats assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen speaks a little French.
“When Kentucky offered me, I was so happy,” the 6-foot-9 Diallo told Roberts at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va. “I have a lot of top schools, but Kentucky is the best school, you know?”
Rohrssen moved to Kentucky from Pittsburgh, where he had already established a relationship with the Mali native, in part because he speaks a little French.
“Little bit,” Diallo said. “He’s not really good.”
Roberts also Tweeted that 2015 Kentucky commit Charles Matthews “says he’s actively recruiting Carlton Bragg and Cheick Diallo to UK. Matthews will take his official visit for Big Blue Madness.”
Kansas, Louisville, Syracuse, Florida, St. John’s and Iowa State are among the other schools in the mix for Diallo, who told Roberts he hopes to decide “next year.”
A high-motor forward who will be much sought after this summer when he plays with Team Scan at the Peach Jam and other events, Diallo is ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2015 by ESPN.com.
