Isaac Hamilton will be a huge addition for coach Steve Alford and UCLA beginning in 2014, his former high school coach told SNY.tv.
“He has been admitted academically but he has not committed yet. If (he goes) he will be a great addition because he can play the one and the two,” Los Angeles (CA) St. John Bosco coach Derrick Taylor told SNY.tv. “He’s just a scoring machine.
“And he’s a crazy good teammate who will never cause a problem. He’s the greatest, most versatile person you could imagine.”
According to BruinSportsReport, the 6-foot-4 Hamilton was admitted to UCLA and will enroll in 2014.
Asked if it was possible Daniel Hamilton, a UConn pledge in 2014, would join Isaac at UCLA, Taylor said, “Not a chance. Not interested in UCLA.”
The news comes after UCLA struck out on several high school point guards, including Quentin Snider (Illinois), Jordan McLaughlin (USC) and Josh Perkins (Gonzaga).
Hamilton initially signed a Letter of Intent with UTEP, but wanted to get out of it in order to be close to his sick grandmother. UTEP coach Tim Floyd wouldn’t let Hamilton out of the Letter, and his waiver was denied last week, according to CBSSports.com.
“I know they were working on [UCLA] and that was a place he was very interested in because his grandmother is sick and he had to stay local,” Taylor said. “UCLA was his only major that he had an option of going to.”
“Right now I’m not really looking into schools,” Hamilton told SNY.tv by text in July. “Just been out here taking care of my grandma.”
