After it was expected that the 6-foot-8 forward out of Bradenton (IMG) Academies would announce Wednesday for either Texas or Kansas, IMG coach Andy Borman said it will now happen Thursday.
“Going to announce tomorrow a.m.,” Borman said by text.
Daniels, ranked the No. 3 small forward in the nation by Rivals.com, initially committed to Texas out of Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft High and sources indicate he is still leaning strongly that way.
LaRon Daniels, DeAndre’s father, is said to be advocating for Kansas.
With Jamari Traylor’s commitment to Kansas Wednesday, two of Daniels’ former IMG teammates are now headed to the Jayhawks. Christian Garrett, a close friend of Daniels, joined Kansas in January as a recruited walk-on.
“The father wants to make sure DeAndre makes the right decision,” said Dinos Trigonis, Daniels’ AAU coach with Belmont Shore. “The father has to sign the Letter of Intent, so ultimately they have to come to the same page.
“Ultimately, DeAndre and his father will decide what’s best for DeAndre and his basketball and his academic future.”
