Demetrius Henry Cuts to Three (UPDATED)

Demetrius Henry is down to three schools

The 6-foot-9, 218-pound big man from Faith Baptist Christian School (Fla.) is now considering South Florida, Miami and South Carolina.

“Want to thank all the coaches that have recruited me, but I decided to cut my list to three schools. USF, UM,SOUTH CAROLINA no order,” he tweeted.

He had previously considered Texas, Rutgers and Auburn, too.

“He will set up visits in March and make a decision in April,” Faith Baptist and Team Breakdown coach Kenny Gillon told SNY.tv. “He is working hard now, averaging 18 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks for a talented Faith Baptist Christian team.”

Gillon said Henry will be able to help whatever school he picks.

“He is a face-up forward who can score on the inside and from the perimeter,” he said. “He averages about two 3-pointers a game.”

He added: “He is good defensively and has good timing blocking shots.”

Let me get this straight, He is complaining that his competition isn't good, therefore he can go and play hookie? lol, I thought a good idea would have been to cherish the opportunity and lock down one of the starting gigs, but nah it's just too simplistic.

Patterson should realize with the CB situation that even if he is not high on the peg board, he would be the most likely have the best chance to start, keeping him could demoralize the team, unless he goes in front of the all the players and apologizes and promises to work his A$$ of to help out the team.

I have exactly zero point zero sympathy points. I don't play sports for a living. For me, (and most likely you, fellow commentator) sports are an expense, not a source of revenue.  When I'm unhappy with my place in the rec league pecking order, I work harder and get additional coaching.  So eff him (if this is true).

The season hasn't even started yet and things are falling apart smh

This entire flap comes down to the locker room. And its leaders. Period.

Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down?

Patterson has lost the media & the fans -- but we simply do not matter in NFL-Land. Nor have we ever. On anything.

Idzik & Rex can easily swallow the hits to their authority (& dignity) & play him if he gives them the best chance to win on Sunday.

The key is the locker room.

If key PLAYERS go "WTF, who cares? Let's play!" then he stays & he plays; we all move on; it's just another weird Jets story for the Gang Green annals.

But if the PLAYERS feel betrayed -- if they no longer trust Patterson to have their backs, then Idzik's call is easy… Dimitri would be gone.

To me, right now, with thousands of beat writer words being thrown at this, the player quotes are the key signals I'm watching.

My instincts are telling me that that's what this "suspension" period is for. To buy time, let the dust settle and get a read on what message the locker room ends up sending the front office…

Of course, if they go thumbs up, then Dimitri enforcement for the season becomes a locker room responsibility.

Walls is in the rehab area now...hope this is nothing serious.

if this is indeed true, that he ditched the team because he was mad at the pecking order at CB, then we should cut him right now....i dont care if the depth is terrible, this isnt the type of guy you want on this squad....obviously hes a thin skinned BIT$$ and should be on the waiver wire today...what a bum....doesnt he realize that he hasnt been healthy enough to even play, so what he whining about....this is a problem of his making and he whiny little girl....cut em

Doesn't matter we have walls and lankster!!! No regrets!!! Top 5 defense here we come!!!

If true, this is strange. You can always go talk to the coach or GM without going AWOL. There might be more here than meets the eye. Sounds to me that the Jets told Patterson that his starting spot for opening day wasn't guaranteed and he had a hissy fit. But do you cut a guy for that?

Miscommunication or not, pretty sure the team didn't tell him, "Dmitri, we know you're upset, why don't you take a few days off."

So if patterson is gone... We will be thin at CB... Do the rams have any good CBs? Vick can help them out alot right now.

Maybe he was unhappy that the team was wanting him to play to much.  We don't know.  Let's wait for all the details.

Just kidding.  Cut his a$$.

"It just kind of shows you that, for whatever reason, [Patterson] doesn't care that much -- at least to come to the game and show guys that you're there for them,"

Clearest sign he's gone.

I don't think what Idzik is doing is wrong, but this is a by product of bargain basement shopping.  This is his second budget signing to go AWOL.  Some of these guys have issues maybe cause they feel like they had to settle.

Going this route may have caused them to reach for McDougle cause they loved him , knowing they needed to draft a corner badly since the vet signing wasn't a long term answer.  I'm not a scout or a rah rah guy , but McDougle seemed like he had a great head on his shoulders so it's a big loss.  He probably would have stepped up early.

Walls and Lankster are decent players, so now it's a question of whether we can afford to cut Patterson.

Does anyone know if we can recap any money due to this stunt if we cut him, maybe to apply it elsewhere ?

@Jeff E. Guy When I'm upset with my place in the rec league pecking order, I find a weaker league. BIG FISH SMALL POND, BABY.

@metjetnet There's already been enough said by some players that show they aren't happy with how he acted. The comments were in the twitter feed on thejetsblog.

@nickballs Agreed.

If they keep him, you have to wonder if he'll skip any more games if things don't go his way.

@j3tsfan29 Keep ignoring the #1 CB on the team just to bash the unit, no one sees through that act at all.

I think it comes down to how Patterson responds.  Obviously, to some degree of severity, he screwed up.  But, it's not like he passed out in the middle of the highway with a loaded gun in the car, or beat his wife unconscious, or even got a little too tipsy and pulled a DUI.  Is skipping a preseason game because your angry worse than any of those things?  And everyone couldn't wait to get Goodson back.  Ray Rice is still playing for the Ravens.  And Braylon had to sit a half, or something silly.  Is Patterson's screw up so much worse than any of those that he deserves to be cut outright?

If I were his teammate, I'd be a lot madder if he endangered his life and the lives of others.  Guys hold out all the time in the NFL - perhaps this was Patterson's mini-hold out.

The team will discipline him.  The purpose of the discipline is to allow Patterson to grow as a person and a player.  Maybe at this point in time, he isn't the world's best teammate.  But perhaps this situation can help him learn how such behavior affects those around him.  Obviously, he wasn't mature enough to understand this, but let's not assume the guy can't improve himself.

I think it's pretty hypocritical to call for his head when we've let so many other players slide for much worse transgressions.

@mario3 I'd rather be a little thin at CB depth right now than have Simms as our only backup QB to Geno all season.

It's definitely not looking good for him.

If they cut him they won't get his signing bonus back ($1m) but they'll no longer be on the hook for anything else, so that will increase their cap room by about $1.5m and create an open roster spot.

@Brendan  Cheater! You need to find a sport with a ratings system to keep you honest.... :-P

nickballs

@williamg1 @nickballs u also have to wonder how much the other players dont like him now.....think he ditched them......hes not good enough to deal with any of his BS..cut em....Walls, Lankster, Allen, Lewis, then Dee will be back......this whole secondary hinges on the safety play imo.....if Pryor is nasty that will certainly take pressure off corners...landry, pryor, jarret, allen....they need to step it up .... but i think Dee, Walls, wilson, lankster with Allen can be solid enough when you add that to our ridiculous front 7.......is it ideal? no , not at all..........maybe theyll pick up Florence or trade for Joseph, Claiborne....idk...

It's not a bad article.  Of course Bent has went into much more detail, but the link above is short and sweet and to the point.

Much better than anything Crimini, Manish or any of the other hacks wrote about the game.

@roadyhorns @UncleJoesJetFarm Another factor is that it is preseason where jobs are won and lost and you get your work in, so in a way he was hurting himself more than his teammates, who actually benefitted from the extra time. As long as he can prove that he would never do this in a situation that WOULD hurt the team, it's mendable.

You have to look at the teams we play this year, we face alot of good teams with good or great offenses... We need a solid CB and milliner is not healthy and unproven still

@Bent @GratefulJet Isn't this a breach off contract to go AWOL. Is the signing bonus not recoverable if there is a contract violation?

Brendan
Brendan

@Jeff E. Guy I play intramural co-ed soccer, if I couldn't hack it in that league, I'd just give up.

Bent

@WW85 @Bent @GratefulJet

It's nearly always unrecoverable although teams have started putting in clauses where if you're convicted of a crime they can get it back.  I don't think a minor hissy fit would have the same effect (which is what this seems most likely to be although I confess I don't know that for sure).

You definitely cannot recover a signing bonus after cutting someone and therefore I don't think there would be time to resolve this anyway.

mario3

You think they gonna be solid against jordy nelson/cobb, marshall/jeffery (who i wanted instead of bum a$$ hill) , megatron/tate?

mario3

I hope you are right pete57 but i dont think they will fare well against those WRs... D line needs to step up this year

Pete 57
Pete 57

Those receivers will be tough for most CBs. I'm not saying they will shut them down but they have shown they can be solid. Plus Milliner and Allen will be back.
