Wassup world? It’s Emmanuel Owootoah, also known as Rico, and you are tuned into my blog on ZAGSBLOG.com.

I currently go to Cordia High School in Kentucky. For me and my team, this season has been filled with a lot of ups and downs. It was tough at first but as the season progresses it seems to only get better. I sat out and missed about 15 games because I had to go through the eligibility process.

It hurt watching my squad from the sidelines in all those close games knowing I could be a huge difference-maker. I just tried to be as encouraging as possible, trying to do all I can to help get them through those tough times.

Now that Marlon King [a 6-4 2013 guard] and I are eligible, everything’s coming together. We’re really starting to jell. Since I’ve been eligible we’ve gone 7-1 in league play.

We got a superstar 7th-grader, Markquis Nowell, an up-and-coming 8th-grader, Austin Combs, some really good junior players in A.J. Tagaloga and Brian Jones and some really good seniors in Dondra Warron, Matt Neace and Marlon King. We got a squad this year that’s for sure and we’re trying to make history.

Originally, I’m supposed to be a junior in the Class of 2014 but because I decided to fast track I reclassified to 2013. Since becoming eligible my recruitment has skyrocketed. I’ve heard from UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, USC, Villanova, Providence, N.C. State, Fresno State, Morehead State, Florida State, Alabama, Florida, Seton Hall, Baylor, Tennessee and Florida.

If I had to decide, UCLA would be my No. 1 right now but I don’t have a top 5 or 10 yet. Stay tuned to my blog since I will be releasing more information here.

I’m a student-athlete and my school work is most important. My lowest mark right now is a 90 and I also just received a qualifying score on my ACT.

Honestly, I’m just thankful and blessed to be in this position. I know it’s not my work but the work of God. I continue to work hard to make my mom and all my dudes back home in Rexdale proud.
