Following Visit, Baylor Near the Top for Mario Kegler
Following a weekend official visit to Baylor, Mario Kegler has the Big 12 program near the top of his list.
“I would say Baylor’s up there, yeah,” Omhar Carter, Kegler’s guardian and AAU coach, told SNY.tv Sunday evening. “They cannot not be up there.”
Arizona State is also strongly in the mix but this weekend’s Baylor visit certainly made an impression.
“It was great,” Carter said. “The campus, the way they’re building their program with the new age techniques and all that stuff, how they’re trying to build the coaching staff. How many coaches they have around, they have enough coaching staff that the kids will never be in a situation where he’s on campus by himself, no down time. It’s just a great setup. It’s organized, it was good.”
Kegler and Carter also watched the No. 5 Baylor football team smash Rice, 70-17.
“The football was off the chain,” Carter said. “I live in SEC country and I have never seen nothing like that.”
Kegler also has visits slated for Maryland (Oct. 15-17) and Indiana (Oct. 23-25) and may also visit Mississippi State.
“We’re talking to Mississippi State now about possibly going up there one of these weekends,” Carter said.
“We’ll take all our visits and then we’ll make our decision from there.”
As for Kegler’s upside, Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said: “Big strong kid, almost 6-7. Working with him on his body. He’s about 235, he needs to be 220-225. He’s more of a wing guard.
“Great shooter, 3- point range, good off the bounce. Very good in the pick and roll. Gets to the basket ball well. Can rebound his position and he’s a high, high level player.”
