Another day, another get for Cincinnati and head coach Mick Cronin.One day after landing New Jersey big man Quadri Moore, Cincinnati secured a pledge Wednesday from Gary Clark, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Clayton (N.C.). who announced at his high school.
“Next year I’ll be playing college basketball at the University of Cincinnati,” he said.
Clark held offers from Maryland, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pitt, N.C. State and Miami, among others.
Clark credited Cronin and assistant Larry Davis for recruiting him and said he made the decision “last Monday.”
“When I went up this weekend I saw it for myself,” he said of his visit this past weekend. “I really love the guys, the guys were awesome. Coach Cronin, he’s a great guy. The whole coaching staff was really hands on with me.
“Since last week I knew I wanted to be a Bearcat, I was just kind of waiting.”
Clark said he will play similarly to current Bearcat Justin Jackson and can play both on the perimeter and inside.
“The way they use their fours are basically their threes so they get a bunch of guys just about the same,” he said.
“He is versatile and can guard big guys,” Clayton coach Denny Medlin told SNY.tv. “He can score in a variety of ways inside and out. His best attribute is he’s a winner.
“With 40 percent of NCAA players transferring, Gary will be a four-year loyal guy. He is big on relationships and will with gel with teammates just as he has at Clayton and with CP3.”
Clark joins Moore and Coreontae DeBerry, a 6-9, 270-pound post player from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, in Cincinnati’s 2014 class.
