Harrison Twins to Announce Thursday

After initially saying they would announce their college choice Oct. 29, the Harrison Twins have switched gears and will now likely pull the trigger for either Kentucky or Maryland Thursday on ESPNU.

“Thursday will be the toughest decision I ever had to make but I’m looking forward to it,” Andrew Harrison Tweeted.

Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon will have an in-home visit with the twins Wednesday night, Aaron Harrison Sr. told Scout.com.

The twins are ranked the No. 4 and 5 prospects on the Sheridan Hoops Top 20 Prep Prospects list.

After initially naming a Top 5 of Kentucky, Maryland, SMU, Baylor and Villanova, the twins cut their list to three, with SMU considered an extreme longshot.

During a video interview in August with SNY.tv, Aaron Harrison said of Kentucky: “I mean, they always have a good class of players. Coach [John] Calipari knows how to put a lot of great players together and make them win so he would just have another great class.”

The twins said they weren’t concerned with whether Kentucky might land a blockbuster class that could potentially include some combination of James Young, Julius Randle and Andrew Wiggins.

“I’m not sure about who’s going there [to Kentucky] and who’s not, so I can’t really answer that question,” Andrew said in August.

Since then, Young, the 6-6 shooting guard from Rochester (Mich.) has visited Kentucky and is considering a second trip Oct. 12 for Big Blue Madness.

A Division I source previously told SNY.tv that the twins and their father were split over where they should go and that they wanted to announce their decision before Young or any other player potentially picked Kentucky.

As for Maryland, they have remained a viable option for the Twins, who have family in Baltimore.

“Maryland presents a lot of things,” Aaron said in August. “It’s close to my family, Coach Turgeon recruited me when he was at Texas A&M. It’s close to my family, I like the way they play.”

Added Andrew: “It’s a family atmosphere. The ACC is a great conference and Coach Turgeon is a good coach. Coach Bino [Ranson], I like those guys.”

The world will find out on Thursday what they have decided.

And whichever program gets them will have a pair of potential one-and-done players for the 2013-14 season.
