  • Isaiah Briscoe Down to 5 Schools, Says He’ll Sign in Spring

Isaiah Briscoe is now down to five schools, and says he won’t sign until the spring signing period.

The 6-foot-3 Roselle (N.J.) Catholic point guard told The Basketball Diary on Sunday he is now considering Arizona,Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova.

“That’s it,” Briscoe said, adding he will sign in the “Spring, I want to decide late.”

Louisville, which at one point had been recruiting Briscoe after Rick Pitino visited RC this spring and offered Briscoe a scholarship, is no longer in the mix. UConn was also originally on his list of seven but is out after landing point guard Jalen Adams.

Arizona remains on Briscoe’s list even after they added Findlay Prep shooting guard Allonzo Trier this weekend, adding him to 2015 point guard Justin Simon.

Still, St. John’s would seem to benefit the most from the Trier commitment.

Head coach Steve Lavin has made Briscoe a priority for two years now, and Briscoe likes the idea of potentially playing in New York and at Madison Square Garden.

“Oh, playing in New York at the Garden and I’m pretty much from the Northeast area, so going there it’s crazy,” he told SNY.tv at the Peach Jam, where he led the Playaz Basketball Club to the championship. “I could bring St. John’s back on top.”

Locals Seton Hall and Rutgers remain on the list, and by waiting until the spring, Briscoe and his family give those schools an opportunity to show him what they could be like going forward.

Seton Hall has a loaded incoming recruiting class led by McDonald’s All-American Isaiah Whitehead, while Rutgers will be debuting in the Big Ten against the likes of Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin.

“They got [Isaiah] Whitehead, they got Desi [Rodriguez], great players,” Briscoe told SNY.tv of Seton Hall. “Stay home. Seton Hall is 20 minutes from my house., so staying home so my mom and dad can watch me play is big.

“And that goes for Rutgers also, I live about 40 minutes from Rutgers, they have a great campus.”

Villanova remains somewhat of a dark horse but head coach Jay Wright has had tremendous success recruiting New Jersey guards, including Mike Nardi, Corey Fisher, Corey Stokes and Dominic Cheek.

“They was recruiting me my sophomore year and not too long ago coach Ashley [Howard] said he wanted to pick up the recruiting so I gave them a chance,” Briscoe told SNY.tv.

As for what will put him over the top in picking a school, Briscoe told The Basketball Diary, “Just go wherever I can play my game, be coached. I want a coach to get me to the next level after college basketball.”

Meantime, Briscoe remains sidelined in a walking boot for 4-6 weeks with a fractured right foot suffered in Las Vegas.

“Shutting it down for a month and a half,” he said.
