  • Jamal Murray May Visit Michigan, Others

142879825321Canadian point guard Jamal Murray may visit Michigan and several other schools following trips to Kentucky and Oregon, according to comments from ESPN’s Paul Biancardi.

“He visited Kentucky, he just visited Oregon, he’s thinking about visiting Michigan and a couple of others. Will he do that? He’s not sure,” Biancardi told KentuckySportsRadio.com. “Right now, it’s a two-and-a-half horse race, Michigan being the half. If they get the visit, you have to consider them a full-fledged threat. Handicapping it, how do you not pick Kentucky out of those three right now? But John Beilein has had a lot of success and Dana Altman’s doing a lot of great things up at Oregon, and they’ve got a Canadian up there already in Dylan Brooks.”

Those comments are consistent with what Roger Murray, the player’s father, recently told SNY.tv about his visit plans.

“We’re taking a couple visits, I’m not sure the date yet or exactly how we’re going to do it but we’ll be taking some visits for sure,” Roger said before the Kentucky and Oregon visits.

Following the Oregon visit, Jamal Tweeted that he had taken two of his five official visits.

Murray is on track to reclass to 2015 from 2016 like many Canadian stars before him, including Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett, who ended up being back-to-back No. 1 draft picks.

Murray is currently listed as the No. 21 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com, but that’s not good enough for the ultra-competitive point guard.

“I have some work to do, I think I can do a lot better than that,” Murray told SNY.tv recently. “I see no reason why I shouldn’t be there [No. 1] in 2016.”

He has yet to decide whether to remain in 2016 or reclass to 2015 and sees advantages in both. In either case, he could be eligible for the 2016 Draft.

If he remains in 2016, Murray said, he could “Work on my body, get quicker, stronger, develop more muscle and get more durable and work on my game longer. Stay with my family another year.”

If, on the other hand, he reclasses to 2015, the advantage is, “Going to a good university, getting my education and looking forward to the next step.”

There is no timetable on the decision and it could go into the summer.

“[Maybe] two months,” Murray said. “My dad’s taking care of it. That’s a choice for my dad to make.”
