Jared Terrell, one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2014 out of the Expressions Elite AAU program and Brewster Academy, will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG during his junior season. Here’s his first entry:
I attended the Fordham-UConn game with Abdul Malik Abu and Coach [Ty] Boswell. I enjoyed the game a lot.
First off, the seats were great. We were right behind the bench. I got a really good feel for how the speed at the next level is played. As far as the style of play goes, I liked it. They get up and down and rarely hold the ball. I like how they let the guards play and they give them freedom.
It’s not too many set plays and more of just playing the game and the coaches having confidence that their guards will make the right plays during the game. There were some players I played against in the NEPSAC on Fordham’s team, which made things interesting. The league we play in really prepares you for the next level.
After the game, we went into the locker room to meet the coaches. Coach [Jim] Calhoun was in there as well. He spoke about the program and how we could help UConn. They spoke about family and how they all stick together and if we needed to speak to Kemba Walker or Ray Allen, they were only a phone call away.
I also had a conversation with Coach [Kevin] Ollie about how they really want me and how the program is going to be improving. But he said that they were going to need talent to take care of business and I am the type of player they need along with Malik.
Me and Abdul spoke after the game and UConn will be an option when the time comes.
But until then, I will remain in the gym working on my craft so I can one day play at the highest level.
