Jermaine Lawrence to Debut Thursday (UPDATED)

After missing half the season with a hand injury, Jermaine Lawrence will make his season debut Thursday night when Pope John XXIII host Morris Hills.

The addition could have major implications for the New Jersey North Non-Public A bracket come state playoff time.

“Got my first game tomorrow!” the 6-foot-10 Lawrence was cleared Wednesday when he was cleared to play.

That happened one day after he worked out for Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin at the school.

He is considering Cincinnati, St. John’s and UNLV, and will now visit St. John’s in mid-February, the New York Post reported. St. John’s only home games next month are Feb. 8 (UConn), Feb. 20 (USF) and Feb. 24 (Pitt).

“It’s going to be great to see him out on the court for a lot of reasons but first and foremost for his own psyche,” Pope John coach Jason Hasson told SNY.tv.

“It’s been really hard for him not being able to go out and compete with his teammates. He loves this team and his teammates and I’m really happy he is going to get to join us tomorrow.

“With our second-leading scorer, Matt Zignorski, still out with an injury, it will be good to get another scoring option on the court and from a team-leadership perspective, the kids all look up to him so to be able to step on the court will be big for the direction of the entire team.”

“But mainly I’m just happy for him to to have the opportunity to go out and enjoy being a senior and playing high school basketball and all that goes with that.”

RT @RichCimini Takeaways from scrimmage: I wouldn't get too worked up about the offense. It's early. This isn't Sparano 2.0. #nyj

Plus, our defense is prettttttty good

Today's Example of negative bias in the media toward Jets.

Yahoo sports Headlines: Gino and Vick shaky in scrimmage.

Manziel Dazzles in scrimmage.

Manziel was 3/7 passing for 14 yards and scrambled twice for 18 yards. All with the second team. No touchdowns.

I was really pumped when I read about the Stephen Hill catch on twitter

Well it looks like at least one side of the ball will be good this year

Glad to see Miles flashing, I really liked his tape.

Didn't notice anything about Antwan Barnes so he must still be rehabbing...

I have never been able to get into the comment section of a Geico Sports night post, like the one this morning on the scrimmage. I use an iPad. Anyone know why?

Sounds like Salas and Hill are stepping up this year.

Here is a little snip for you Joey to show how much Vick is hated in Cortland.

"Vick, who along with Chris Johnson got perhaps the biggest pre-scrimmage ovations, drew big cheers again when he took off on one play and ran for 20 yards."

@Pete 57 Those are dazzling numbers when you play for the Browns.

If you have the same issue I do on my ipad, a bug in the site's code causes the video to start when you want to go to the comments.

I get around this bug by touching the headline of the post & scrolling to the comments.

With the popularity of iOS devices the last few years, it is pretty amazing how long SNY has neglected to fix this.

@levi That's because all the people who hate him are too busy mobilizing for opening day.

@Bent @Pete 57

It will be interesting to see how well their respective offenses develop, as each coach (Ryan/Pettine) is known specifically for their defensive genius!!

@levi LOL. People love to hate Hill. They forget he's the only guy on the roster who can turn into a legitimate #1 receiver

That worked! Thanks.

@Bent  They will take over the stadium. Its gonna be chaos and anarchy.

@MarshRandy  Especially with the new rules coming out for pass interference this year (which I hate) our big, fast receivers can draw a lot of penalties.

Touche !! Well placed Bent!!

But my point is that although both are Defensive coaches, It (The Team) all starts with the coach ....and that, my friend,  includes the offense!!

The coach must paint a WHOLE picture of how his team wants to look life so the GM gets the players that fit his vision !!!

That is why I say that it will be interesting to see  how BOTH offenses develop !!
