Recruiting Roundup: John Calipari Visits Bam Adebayo, Mark Gottfried Sees Rawle Alkins; Duke Offers DeLaurier; Syracuse Offers Cosby-Roundtree; Powell to Visit Seton Hall; Nevada Lands Wooten

A couple of interesting visits took place in North Carolina on Monday.

Kentucky coach John Calipari visited Bam Adebayo at High Point (N.C.) Christian Academy.

“His message was pretty simple,” High Point Christian coach Brandon Clifford said. “Mainly about how he and UK could get Bam to where he ultimately wants to be. That along with the types of things that come with being a part of the Kentucky program.”

Kentucky recently offered the 6-foot-10 power forward, and Adebayo told SNY.tv last month in New York that he might visit Kentucky. No visit date has been set.

“I think I probably will,” he said.

Adebayo averaged 14.2 points and 10.6 rebounds for Team Loaded North Carolina on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit this season.

Adebayo has been linked to N.C. State and a potential package with Dennis Smith Jr, who committed to the Wolfpack last week.

Meantime, N.C. State head coach Mark Gottfried and assistant Rob Moxley visited Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God guard Rawle Alkins on Monday following Alkins’ unofficial to North Carolina on Sunday.

Alkins Tweeted about possibly playing alongside Smith Jr. and Adebayo at N.C. State.

Alkins has a list of 10 or 11 schools, but now that he’s at Word of God, expect the local schools like North Carolina and N.C. State to focus on him more.

Gottfried visited both Adebayo and Smith Jr. via helicopter last week.

 

DUKE OFFERS DELAURIER

Duke has offered Javin DeLaurier, a 6-9 forward from Charlottesville (VA) St. Anne’s-Belfield School, according to Team Loaded.

DeLaurier visited Texas officially this past weekend and Notre Dame the weekend before.

He will visit Stanford Oct. 10 and Duke Oct. 23, according to 247Sports.com.

 

SYRACUSE, USC OFFER COSBY-ROUNDTREE

Syracuse and USC offered  Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, a 6-8 200-pound 2017 forward from Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti, he Tweeted.

Syracuse has also offered his teammate Quade Green,  a 5-11 point guard.

Villanova, Temple, Providence and VCU also offered Cosby-Roundtree.

“He was a surprise for us last year and he’s getting better,” Neumann-Goretti coach Carl Arrigale told Syracuse.com. “We didn’t think he would be able to help us last year and he played on our varsity as a sophomore.”

 

POWELL TO VISIT SETON HALL

Myles Powell of South Kent (CT) will take his first official visit to Seton Hall this weekend, he Tweeted.

The 6-2 Powell is considering UConn, Pittsburgh, VCU, Seton Hall and DePaul.

“Myles is one of the top long-range shooters in the country,” South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson recently told SNY.tv. “He can stretch the defense with his range but he has a good IQ and feel for the game. He can pass and crease easy baskets for his teammates.”

 

NEVADA LANDS WOOTEN

Kenny Wooten, an ultra-athletic 6-8, 210-pound forward out of Manteca (CA) High and Dream Vision, committed to Nevada on Monday.

Wooten, who also had offers from Kansas State and Georgia Tech, is coach Eric Musselman’s first 2016 commit.

“Nevada just felt like the best fit for me and they had a lot to offer on and off the court,” he said. “I bonded really well with the coaching staff and the players. It was just an all-around perfect place for me.

“I’m bringing a good motor, athleticism, defense and some nice mid-range jumpers.”

Nevada also has a pledge from 6-5 2017 small forward Trevon Abdullah from Las Vegas Desert Pines.

 

FREE THROWS

Jordan Tucker, a 2017 wing from White Plains (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac, is planning an unofficial to St. John’s this weekend after head coach Chris Mullin visited him last week… Old Dominion and Creighton offered 2017 Vermont Academy wing Christian David on Tuesday, per coach Alex Popp.
