Thanks for the answers Bent. I knew I saw the penalty on that touchdown. However, the catch I would've sworn was a catch, until the frame by frame you provided.

I don't think there is any NFL team that has a regular season winning record against the Pats in this century. I don't think Brady ever lost a Thursday night game. Jets have to bring their very best to Foxboro.

Stat of the day:
The Jets are 1-0 when leading after four quarters this season. We should keep that trend rolling.

Bent, I just read somewhere moderately credible that the Jets have more rushing yards and rushing TDs against the Pats in the Rex era than any other team including playoffs.  I can't figure out how to verify this or refute it.  Can you?

If it is 10-0 Pats at halftime do we see Vick start the 2nd half?

Bent, It was my first BGA question and I am happy you answered. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.

Its a pleasure to read your analysis and comment with fellow Jets fans.

 However, while I actually do think defenses are trying to get Geno to make risky throws, this is not just by overloading the box. Rather, they’ve been running their coverages so that the short intermediates are kept on top of and forcing him to beat them down the field.

I remember we had some guy who could get behind the defense constantly...then our genius GM cut him and replaced him with even worse players.

Hi Bent,

The Jets suck this year! I told you Kerley is a #4 receiver and his stats suck.....I like J.K but the Jets need more firepower. Perhaps you agree this time? I've been moaning for 3 years now about bad WR depth and I complained when the Jets got rid of Revis and Cro so CB is now also a disaster....

I watched the Denver game......and my question for you is "Do you think they are stupid in Florham Park, or  are they simply incapable of learning from their mistakes?" I know you love defense so you can't be happy with what Idzik has done destroying the Jets secondary....

Also....do you think Geno can ever be good like Joeyboy does or should we draft a QB in round 1 ?

Cheers

@jaygo "Moderately credible"

I bet they get their stats from ESPN Stats and Information.

@jaygo Do you mean the Jets have more rushing yards and TD against the Pats than the Jets have against any other team or that the Jets have more rushing yards and TD against the Pats than anybody has against the Pats?

Depends on how Geno has played. I mean if he's 15-19 for 197 yards but CJ lost three fumbles, no. :)

@bradysucks You're supposed to ask the questions BEFORE BGA Extra.  There's no BGA Extra Extra.

@Bent @jaygo Phone rang.  I meant Pats have given up more rushing yards and rushing TDs to the Jets than Pats have given up to any other team.

@Bent @jaygo I'd gather that both are very possible since they played the Pats more times than any other team has in that period of time (11 games in 5 years), and they've played the Pats more than they've played any other team.

Hill, yes. Stinks. And Idzik managed to find players that provide even less value. It really is incredible.

Bent

@bradysucks @MikeFrancesser I assumed he was referring to Braylon, with the obvious irony that Braylon himself was one of the even worse players they replaced him with.

I will take your non answer both as punishment and as an admission (through silence) that I am correct....

@jaygo @Bent Well, in that time frame, the Pats played the Jets 11 times, the hapless Bills and Dolphins 10 times, and a host of other teams 3-5 times (except the Ravens who they strangely played seven times in five years).

Unless it's a per game statistic, it's not a good one.

DarrolRayFanClub

@Bent @jaygo and being that the only teams even close are Miami and Buffalo (10 games), it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Have you seen the way rookie WR's like Jordan Matthews, Devontae Adams, Kelvin Benjamin, ODB Jr. Cooks etc etc have looked so far this year?

All of those guys seem to have good futures in the NFL ahead of them and they all could have been Jets....

I know I go OVERBOARD but I hate what Idzik did in the 2014 draft....

There were so many opportunities to get BETTER and I feel like the Jets went BACKWARDS

Kerley played great in the first three games.  I didn't hear you boasting about how terrible he was then.  Since then I don't know what's happened - maybe he's injured or something - but he proved in those first three games what he's capable of.

Injuries have destroyed the Jets secondary, not John Idzik (although he definitely should've brought Reed back).

And, sure, Geno can still develop into a good player.  He has not been one so far though.

DarrolRayFanClub
DarrolRayFanClub

It's a compiler statistic -- the other two teams in the division have been bad.

Bills 10 games = 1,204, 5 TDs

Dolphins 10 games = 779 yards, 3 TDs

Jets 11 games = 1,470 yards, 8 TDs

Ravens 7 games = 828 yards, 7 TDs

Bent

@DarrolRayFanClub @Bent @jaygo I actually doubt that the Jets have rushed for more yards against the Pats than the Bills in the Rex era considering they had a MONSTER game against them in 2009 and TWO monster games against them in 2010.

@bradysucks @Bent @MikeFrancesser

If we had one of those guys instead of Amaro would it make a lick of difference?

All of those guys have better QBs throwing to them than Geno so their production would be lower here.

And Amaro's production isn't that far off any of them and is better than a couple.

I don't ever remember saying Kerley was "terrible" and I don't think that at all....

I may have said that it is "terrible" when the BEST receiver on your football team is Jeremy Kerley....

I actually like J.K......as a 3rd or 4th option....preferably the 4th option

bradysucks
bradysucks

@DarrolRayFanClub @bradysucks @Bent

Bent has debated with me in the past as to whether or not the Jets receivers were terrible......and Bent has always pointed to Kerley as one of the league's better WR's......I think he's a good 4th option.....Guess what? Kerly has almost no production this year....

Bent loves defense but defense doesn't work that well without a good secondary and an offense that can score a bunch of points

I'd like to see guys like Bent who HATE OFFENSE finally admit that the Jets need a NEW offense BADLY....

cheers

@DarrolRayFanClub FWIW the Jets have 1947 rushing yards in 10 games against the Bills in the Rex era.

@DarrolRayFanClub Good job so I'll share too.  This "stat," useful or not, was one of many cited in an analysis of the Jets/Pats game by a Vegas Sharpie friend (former hedge fund guy, former casino line maker, who I cannot name here - - -he sells his research - - -who is 72% right ATS so far this year!) to back up his algorithms that the Jets have a decent shot to upset the Pats tomorrow in light of the forecast.  On a clear night he says Jets have a 23% chance of winning, Pats should win by 8 and likes Jets +10 as his bet.  On a rainy windy field, he says Jets chances go up to 48%, Pats win by 3 and he loves Jets +10.  I call him "moderately credible" because I never know where he gets his information or if, like this one, it's really logical based on nothing meaningful but supportive in any event.

@Bent @bradysucks @MikeFrancesser

I think Idzik was nuts not to trade up and draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round.....

Amaro was a good pick but the Jets needed  another WR badly

I think another BIG TARGET opposite of Decker like Devontae Adams, Kelvin Benjamin etc. would be extremely helpful to the QB

I do think it would have made a HUGE difference....especially if Idzik also signed a Golden Tate to work the slot and return punts...

The offense then becomes a lot more dangerous and so does the special teams.....

It's a shame it didn 't happen

Bent

@bradysucks @Bent

You described his production as terrible and implied he stunk.

He is the third option right now behind Decker and Amaro.

Bent
Bent moderator

@bradysucks I never ever said he was "one of the league's better WR's"  I merely argued your supposition that he was "terrible" because it was and remains ridiculous.

I don't hate offense, I just like defense more.

Bent

@bradysucks @Bent @MikeFrancesser

He tried to trade up for Marqise Lee who has done nothing because he's been hurt.  You'd still be complaining that they don't have enough receivers if they pulled that one off.

bradysucks

@Bent @bradysucks

His production is terrible for the best receiver on your football team.....It is a huge problem...I'm not blaming Kerley....I blame the Jets front office.....

Kerley is a good receiver to have in your top 5 rotation

bradysucks
bradysucks

@Bent @bradysucks @MikeFrancesser

Lee has talent and probably is a pretty good NFL player at some point....

We debated this on the blog for MONTHS and just about everybody agreed that the 2014 draft was deep at the WR position and just about everybody would have been happy if we'd have ended up with a Jordan Matthews or Devontae Adams in round 2.....There really was no need to trade up into round 1 ....

The best thing to do would have probably been to pick Amaro in round 2 and also trade up for another 2nd round pick to use on a WR....

Using all 12 picks I think was crazy

Bent
Bent moderator

@bradysucks @Bent

No it isn't.  His production was still pretty good when he was forced to play as the number one and therefore deal with the other team's best corner and more safety support than he otherwise would in the role he would have on the team if not for a raft of injuries this year and last year.

He was on course for a 1000 yard season last year and in 2012 if he doesn't get injured, despite being forced into a number one role when he'd be a number three with everyone healthy.

You do realize that if Idzik traded every single pick the team had after the Amaro pick, they would have 285 value points on the chart, which is barely enough to get into the second round, value-wise (last three picks are under 285)? So maybe they can trade their 3rd, both 4ths, 5th, 6th and 7th for Landry at 63.

Firstly, why would Miami even make that trade? "Yeah, here's my second rounder for all of your useless picks that barely equal in trade value!" And secondly, if Idzik traded every single pick he could for one player, he'd be more vilified by the likes of you than he is now.

Sorry Bent but I'm not a buyer of what you are selling

Kerley is a good complimentary player and I like him

He has never had a 1000 yard season because he has durability issues.....and that does matter

@bradysucks @Bent

"Kerley is a good complimentary player and I like him"

Then you ARE buying what I'm selling.

I'm responding to you throwing around words like "terrible".  Now you're basically admitting you were wrong there, which is true.

You guys crack me up with your lack of creativity. I guess no GM has ever traded into the 2nd round before.

Must be impossible.

You guys truly make me laugh. The team is 1-5 and you defend not making more moves to get better...

I'm not surprised

DarrolRayFanClub
DarrolRayFanClub

@bradysucks

Saying that your idea doesn't work ≠ defending no moves.

I wanted moves but the ones you always bring up on this site don't always make sense, like what you said above. They sound like a radio call-in trade proposals and then when someone explains how what you proposed would not be enough you blame that person for not being creative enough to make it work, and then say they must be happy with how things are. Come on. You're better than that.

It could've been done, but we'd have had to use 2015 picks. 2014 pics were not enough.
