Syracuse appears to have found its next point guard.
Kaleb Joseph, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Cushing (Mass.) Academy, verbally committed as expected on his weekend visit.
“I have officially decided to chase my dreams at Syracuse University and play for the hall of fame coach Jim Boeheim #OrangeNation,” he Tweeted.
He added in a text to SNY.tv: “It’s just how I’ve always envisioned things and something I’ve wanted to do since I was young. I had the chance and I took it. Not often do opportunities like that happen. I can’t go wrong.
“The ball’s in my court. If I work hard and do what I’m supposed to do I’ll be successful at any school. Why not Cuse!”
With incoming point guard Tyler Ennis likely to spend at least one year on campus, Joseph could spend a year tutoring under the Canadian prodigy before taking over the full-time point guard duites.
“Kaleb is a pass-first point guard who facilitates as well as anybody playing off the ball screen,” Mass Rivals coach Vin Pastore told SNY.tv.
“He has great instincts off the ball screen, including his ability to pass and knock down pull-ups.
“Kaleb also has great upside and a high ceiling, making him an intriguing prospect.”
Joseph visited Providence last weekend with Abdul Malik Abu, Jared Terrell and Pascal Chukwu, and was slated to visit West Virginia Sept. 27.
Joseph joins Bronx, N.Y., native Chris McCullough in Syracuse’s 2014 recruiting class. The 6-10 McCullough attends Brewster (N.H.) Academy.
