Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua is slated to watch 2013 point guard Emmanuel Owootoah tonight (Thursday) when Cordia (Ky.) High School takes on Jackson City (Ky.) on Senior Night.
“I’ve been texting with Orlando,” Cordia coach Rodrick Rhodes told SNY.tv. “He’s still coming to the game today.”
Rhodes said Antigua and the Kentucky staff have understandably been busy with Nerlens Noel’s ACL injury, but they are making time to see Owootoah.
“They’re gonna check him out,” Rhodes said. “They asked me what did I think about him and I said, ‘He has an unbelievable feel for the game. He has great court vision and is a very competitive kid. I definitely think he can play at that level.’”
Kentucky already has six pledges for 2013, including five Jordan Brand All-Americans, and remains involved with Andrew Wiggins, Aaron Gordon and Julius Randle.
They have an incoming point guard in Andrew Harrison, but apparently feel Owootoah is at least worth checking out.
Meantime, Rhodes said assistants from Kansas, Villanova, Alabama and Seton Hall are expected Friday when Cordia plays Perry Central.
