Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua came away impressed with 2013 point guard Emmanuel Owootoah Thursday night.
Owootoah went for 15 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds and 6 steals as Cordia (Ky.) beat Jackson City, 81-30, according to Scott Anderson of NationofBlue.com.
“Orlando was at the game,” Cordia coach Rodrick Rhodes told SNY.tv.
“He liked the kid. He thought the kid can play at that level. He said he’s going to send another assistant coach to take a second look. He was impressed with his speed, wiht his vision and he told me he really liked the kid, so I took that as a positive.”
Owootoah told SNY.tv. “I just looked at it as just another game. I wasn’t trying to focus on who was in the crowd. I think I did a good job.”
Kentucky already has six commits for 2013, including McDonald’s All-American point guard Andrew Harrison, yet Rhodes thinks it’s possible they could take on another point guard.
“Those guys are No. 1 point guards,” Rhodes said of Harrison. “Most of [coach John Calipari’s] guys are one-and-done.
“Emmanuel is guy who will probably stick around for four years.”
Rhodes said Alabama and Seton Hall are also definitely expected to watch Owootoah Friday, with more schools possibly in the mix.
“Yeah, I’m really excited about that,” Owootoah said.
Still, he reiterated that UCLA remains his favorite school
The Bruins will lose Larry Drew II to graduation and it remains unclear what Kyle Anderson will do.
Asked what he likes about UCLA, Owootoah said, “My relationship with the coach and that they produce NBA guards.”
