LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — KeVaughn Allen, one of four members of Florida’s 2015 recruiting class, had initially decided that he will wait to see who Florida A.D. Jeremy Foley hires to replace Billy Donovan before making a decision on his future, a source told SNY.tv Sunday night.

The four-star shooting guard committed to Donovan and the Gators in April of 2014 but waited until the late signing period in 2015 to make it official. Initially the decision from Florida’s highest rated 2015 recruit that once hung in the balance of a hire has now been finalized.

John Curry, Allen’s step-father, told Bo Mattingly that Allen will ask for his release once Florida hires a coach. Here’s an excerpt from HawgSports.

“I guess the best way to put it is he’s going to keep his options open,” Curry said of Allen. “That’s the best way to put it.

“It’s coming,” Curry said when asked if Allen will ask for his release from Florida. “Florida has to hire somebody before you can actually ask for a release. You can’t ask for a release until they bring a new coach in, from my understanding. I’m just going by what I was told, once you get a coach hired, you can formally ask for your release. I don’t know if that’s true or not, that’s just what we were told.

“His whole draw to Florida, besides a beautiful university, [was] the coaches. And that goes for a lot of high school kids. They go to a coach, that’s who they go to.”

Allen had plenty of suitors prior to his commitment and even had some still trying to get involved after his commitment was public. A Tennessee assistant attended one of Allen’s game at North Little Rock (AR) and had some brief discussion after the game was over. Allen told me Tennessee asked him to take a visit to Knoxville, but that trip, to my knowledge, never occurred.

Allen will have no problem finding another school if he asks to be released from his National Letter of Intent. What limitations are placed upon him is still to be determined.

With Kevarrius Hayes and Keith Stone stating they will honor their LOIs no matter who the incoming coach is and with Noah Dickerson’s assistant coach telling Kevin Brockway right now he is “100 percent committed to Florida,” the remaining question of KeVaughn Allen appears to be headed in the opposite direction.
