Maryland scored a huge commitment on Labor Day when Kevin Huerter, a 6-foot-6 2016 point guard from Clifton Park (N.Y.) Shenendehowa, pledged to Mark Turgeon’s program.

The No. 12-ranked shooting guard in the Class of 2016 according to 247Sports.com, Huerter was coming off an official visit to Maryland this past weekend following a visit to Villanova. He also had visits set for Michigan and Notre Dame that now won’t be necessary.
“Maryland is really getting one of the more unique players in this class,” Albany City Rocks coach Jim Hart told SNY.tv.
“I can’t remember the last high major point guard with his combination of height, shooting ability, speed and IQ.
“He just had his 17th birthday last week, which also makes him either the youngest or one of the youngest players in the top 50. He will only get better. Maryland got a great one.”
Hart says Huerter is a natural one who can also play the two.
“He has great feet, he’s athletic, make good decisions,” he said. “I think he’s a one. He really pushes the ball great in transition. He’s willing to give it up early or he pushes it off the dribble real well. He can probe for a quick pop, if it’s not there he’ll pull it out and run something.
“He may be better suited to guarding some twos.”
Maryland will hope to keep its momentum going next weekend when 6-10 forward Wenyen Gabriel of Wilbraham & Monson (MA) takes his official visit.
