Khadeem Lattin is one of the more interesting stories in high school basketball.
After living and playing overseas at the Canarias Basketball Academy, the 6-foot-9, 205-pound center returned to the U.S. last year and is now home-schooled in Houston.
He plays high school ball for Redemption Christian HomeSchool Academy, and averaged 21.6 points and 6.4 rebounds last season, according to MaxPreps.
His mother, former WNBA player Monica Lamb, said her son is focusing on a few schools at this point.
“His five favorites are Louisville, Georgetown, SMU, Texas and USC, but we’re not closed,” Lamb told SNY.tv Wednesday by phone from Houston.
Lamb also said Memphis, Oklahoma, Baylor and Arizona are in the mix and that they would take an unofficial visit to Memphis sometime in June.
“We want to to take a hard look at Memphis,” she said. “It’s the only unofficial I’ve already scheduled. We’ve been wanting to get down there.”
Lattin will also check out USC and the reigning NCAA champions this summer.
“We will visit Louisville in the summer,” Lamb said.”We haven’t visited USC. We’ll visit them this summer. We’ll take a little tour.”
Those visits will revolve around Lattin’s summer schedule with the Houston Hoops AAU outfit and his recruitment remains fluid.
“It’s still really early for Khadeem,” Lamb said. “Some kids have committed or narrowed it down to three. We’re not there yet. We have a short list of people we really want to get to know.
