NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — The Las Vegas Dealers semipro basketball team never made a contract offer to incoming Kentucky freshman guard Jamal Murray, according to the team’s president, Cerruti Brown.
“The Dealers have never had communication with Jamal Murray or his family,” Brown told SNY.tv by text.
He added: “We knew of him but never reached out whatsoever. I have yet to be turned down.”
Hoops Hype Canada — the same site which got the date and time of Murray’s college announcement incorrect — said the Dealers had made a “lucrative” offer to Murray.
The Dealers have yet to announce any players for their team, but Brown recently told SNY.tv he would pay up to $1.2 million for a 2015 McDonald’s All-American. Sources said the Dealers were scouting members of the Class of 2016 here at the Peach Jam.
Murray last month reclassed to 2015 from 2016 and committed to Kentucky.
Looking ahead, Murray is also on Canada’s training camp roster for the Pan American Games, as is Oregon sophomore wing Dillon Brooks.
