Leron Black Hosting Big-Time Coaches on Home Visits; Chiozza to Visit USC

Despite being on the shelf with an ankle injury, Leron Black is in the midst of hosting some big-time schools this week.

The 6-foot-7 2014 power forward from Memphis White Station met Monday with N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried, Tennessee’s Cuonzo Martin and Georgia Tech’s Brian Gregory, his AAU coach with Team Thad, Norton Hurd, told SNY.tv.

Ohio State coach Thad Matta is due in today and Florida’s Billy Donovan comes Wednesday.

Hurd said Black, who decommitted from Baylor in January, plans to definitely take official visits in the fall to UConn and Florida.

“I know UConn and Florida are for sure,” Hurd said. “Ohio State, Kansas and Illinois are the favorites for the other three.”

Kansas coach Bill Self is due on to visit Black soon, and UConn’s Kevin Ollie has been in several times, Hurd said.

Kentucky and Duke have also expressed interest, and Hurd said Wildcats coach John Calipari was planning on watching Black this past weekend at the Pitt Jam Fest, but didn’t come because Black was sidelined with the ankle injury.

“They didn’t come, they were coming to see Leron,” Hurd said.

After the home visits, Black hopes to heal up and be back on the court relatively soon.

He will take his officials in the fall

“I think Leron will wait till around November,” Hurd said,

In his absence this weekend, several other Team Thad players stepped up and benefitted.

Chris Chiozza, a 5-9 point guard, picked up offers from USC and Tennessee to go with offers from Butler, VCU, Richmond, Auburn, Ole Miss, UMass and Missouri, Hurd said.

“I know Chris got an offer from USC  last night,” Hurd said. “I know for sure he’s taking that visit to California.”

Hurd said Florida’s Donovan is also interested in both Chiozza and 6-7 forward Marcanvis Hymon, who currently holds offers from Memphis, Cincinnati, Missouri, VCU, Ole Miss, Auburn and UMass.

Meantime, 6-7 forward Riley Norris of Team Thad holds offers from Stanford, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

If Dante Fowler falls down to the Jets. would the Jets draft him,or would you draft Beasley.

While there are a few guys being touted as potential first round picks, the consensus top corner appears to be Trae Waynes of Michigan State. However, even Waynes concerns some scouts with his poor agility scores, despite running a 4.31 forty at the scouting combine.

Some scouts and some obscure 90's backup special teamers as well, apparently.

#TeamVicBeasley who's with me?

Yeah, the idea of unleashing The Beast on our DL line makes my jaw drop and I start to drool.   I need a couple napkins...

does anybody know if Chan Gailey runs 2 tight end sets in his offense eliminating the fullback position?

@Hoz

Gailey's offense is a chimera.  It can be many things.

Anecdotally, I remember more 2TE sets under Gailey at Buffalo than sets with a FB, but PFF could probably correct me on that, I obviously didn't watch as many Bills games as they did.

I'd expect that the personnel grouping you see most frequently is probably 1RB-1TE-3WR.

Corey McIntryre did play primarily as a FB, 300 snaps in 2010 (243 at FB).

However he played a lot less FB in 2012 and Dorin Dickerson - his backup - was more of a utility H-Back.

I guess it's a personnel thing and he tweaks based on who he has.

2012: Smith 294

2011: Smith 129 Martin 34

(Only 7 of the above 457 snaps were as FB)

@Steven Merges

One year deal, no details yet that I can find.   meh!    Not sure what he brings to the table.  Blocking, probably.  But his resume doesn't impress.

I'd like to get Heuerman in the mid rounds.

Thanks, Bent.  Another nice job!

Agree CB is probably not much of a need in this upcoming draft...especially as we don't have 5th & 6th rounders...which could be the neighborhood in which we might want to go shopping for one.   Still, you never know, because Macc has built 'ejector buttons' into some of his deals with corners, and he and Bowles might want to grow some future prospects from scratch.   If someone they like falls...

First round: I'd love to draft Kevin White but I doubt he gets by Oakland.

It's funny that in this article about CBs, which mentions Kevin White the CB, you're talking about wanting to draft Kevin White the WR.

This has been my dream for a while.

It would be awesome if Kevin White the CB was #41 and Kevin White the WR was #14, but those numbers will be taken (Skrine and Fitzpatrick or Owusu).

If Dex is healthy, Jets can basically treat him as a 2015 draft pick, so would make it unlikely they select another CB I think.

@J. Smooth @Marcus Armstrong @Disgruntled Jets Fan I think Dex has promise too, but if Gholson falls to say round 4 that's a player the Jets should pull the trigger on despite having a plethora of corners. I think he'd be a great replacement for Skrine when we cut him in two years for cap space.

6. New York Jets — Georgia RB Todd Gurley

Shocked? Don’t be. Oh, the Jets are not likely to take Gurley, coming off ACL surgery, this high in the draft. But the Jets brass — which are working out Mariota at week’s end up in Oregon — won’t take a quarterback high if they are not blown away. Instead, they’ll select the player who could be the quarterback’s best friend in time if Gurley's knee looks good at the Indianapolis medical re-test next month. Although I am not projecting trades, the Cleveland Browns could be a team interested in moving into this spot for Mariota, and Gurley still could be on the board when the Jets swing back around. There's also a rumble that the Miami Dolphins are high on Gurley.

Things are getting crazy now haha

This makes no sense whatsoever. First he says the Jets are not likely to take Gurley this high in the draft, then immediately has them picking him anyway. So dumb.

@cippycups

If the Jets select Gurley at #6, I'm immediately going shopping for billboards.

Fwiw, according to my projections, Byron Jones should be expected to run in the neighborhood of a 4.25.

Also Kevin White >.
