Magarity Picks BC Over Seton Hall, Temple

Bill Magarity picked Boston College over Seton Hall and Temple.

“Billy decided to attend Boston College,” his father, Bill Sr., told SNY.tv by email.

“He had three great visits and enjoyed spending time with all the coaching staffs at each school. It was a very difficult decision but he feels he made a very good choice selecting BC.

The 6-foot-11, 225-pound forward played professionally with the Italian club Biella, so it remains unclear how that might impact his NCAA status.

NCAA athletes are allowed to have played for a pro team as long as they didn’t receive impermissible benefits.

“He played only like junior player , never winter with [a] professional contract,” Biella’s Marco Atripaldi told SNY.tv by email.

“He’s pretty good,” one coach involved in his recruitment told SNY.tv. “He’s gotta make the adjustment. If he’s acclimated, he’ll be a steal.”

Magarity lives in Sweden but his family has roots in Philadelphia, where his father, Bill Sr., won the Catholic League MVP in 1971.

For Seton Hall, it is the latest recruiting blow to a program that can’t catch a break.

The Pirates already have seen guard Aaron Cosby (Illinois) and big man Kevin Johnson transfer, and they missed out on SMU transfer Blaise Mbarborgba (BU).

The Pirates frontcourt currently features Aaron Geramipoor, Gene Teague, Patrik Auda and Brandon Mobley. Two of those (Geramipoor and Auda) are from the Canarias Basketball Academy.

Terry Larrier, a 6-7 forward from Team Scan, will visit Seton Hall Tuesday and Rutgers Wednesday, his AAU coach told SNY.tv.
