Marcus Derrickson, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI, verbally committed to Georgetown.

“I’m proud to announce that I am officially a Georgetown Hoya! I look forward to playing for Coach Thompson and joining the team,” Derrickson Tweeted.

Derrickson is ranked No. 55 in the Class of 2015 by Rivals and is the Hoyas’ first pledge in that class.

He picked Georgetown over Indiana and Maryland, according to Paul VI coach Glen Farello

“He’s a stretch 4 that isn’t afraid to mix it up around the basket,” Farello told SNY.tv. “He’s a tough gritty competitor with range out to 23 feet.”

John Thompson III’s group has point guard Tre Campbell, power forward Isaac Copeland and small forwards L.J. Peak and Paul White committed for 2014.

The news was first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.
