Michigan, Oklahoma Offer Thornton; Kentucky Will Offer

Derryck Thornton, the 6-foot-2 2016 point guard from Findlay Prep, picked up a pair of offers and a slew of phonecalls on Sunday.

Michigan and Oklahoma offered Thornton, his father, Tank Thornton, confirmed to SNY.tv.

In addition, Kentucky’s John Calipari and Kenny Payne called to check in and say they plan to offer.

“[Calipari] said, ‘I love him,’” said Tank, who previously coached former Kentucky forward Enes Kanter briefly at Stoneridge Prep. “‘I want to offer him face-to-face. I want him to know how hard it is here.’ Cal will tell you if you want to be a pro, you got to take a look at Kentucky.

“He’s been recruiting him since eighth grade. I love Cal and we’ve always had a good relationship.”

Tank said Derryck plans to visit Kentucky within the “next week or two.”

Coaches from UConn (Kevin Ollie), California and Miami also called Sunday, while Tank said he received texts from UNLV, USC, Arizona, Louisville and Florida.

Entering Sunday, Thornton held offers from Miami, Cal, Vanderbilt, Missouri, USC, Arizona, Michigan, UNLV, UConn, Washington and South Florida, among others.
