Morgan Cuts to Three Schools; Will Announce March 27 (UPDATED)

Baltimore St. Frances star Dwayne Morgan has officially cut his list to three schools and will announce on March 27.

The announcement date was first reported by Eric Bossi of Rivals and confirmed by Dwayne Wise, Morgan’s AAU coach.

The 6-foot-7 2014 star is down to Maryland, UNLV and Georgetown.

Wise had initially told SNY.tv that he thought Arizona would make the final cut, but after speaking with Morgan’s mother later Monday, the Wildcats were cut because there is no time for a visit between now and his announcement in early April.

“He wanted his three schools to be Georgetown, UNLV and Maryland because she won’t get a chance to visit Arizona,” Wise said of Morgan’s mother. “She can’t take off [from work]. She’s not going to make it out to Arizona. So we did a conference call with Book [Richardson] and said we appreciated everything he’s done. She doesn’t want him to make any commitments unless he’s seen the campus.”

Richardson had come up to watch Morgan work out Sunday and Wise said the Arizona assistant said Morgan had a “Kevin Durant-type skillset.”

As for Georgetown, Morgan visited Saturday for the Hoyas’ 61-39 rout of Syracuse that cemented the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big East Tournament.

Wise had initially said he didn’t think they would make the cut because the Hoyas landed a pledge Sunday from Isaac Copeland, but Wise said the two could coexist.

“He’s more of a power forward,” Wise said of Copeland.

Wise also said Morgan was impressed with coach John Thompson III’s ability to “get the most out of his players.”

Morgan has long said that Maryland and UNLV were working the hardest on him, and they remain in the mix.

“Dwayne said Maryland and UNLV have recruited him the hardest,” Wise said.

As for the commitment, it was originally slated for April 5 at St. Frances, but now has been shifted.

“His mother would like for all the student body and media and administrators to be there,” Wise said.

Wise said Morgan’s mother wants him to get the process over with now so he can focus on the summer AAU circuit and his senior season.

“She wants to take the pressure off of him and have him focused and getting ready for his senior year and the circuit without having that pressure,” Wise said. “So he will shut it down early.”

Name one thing from Francesa and Eisen's rants that wasn't 100% on the button. If the rants offend you more than the play and actions of this franchise then not only is this team in trouble, but so is their fan base. Play Like A Jet.......... I'd like to see more of our team "not" playing like them. Maybe they should all lay down in the end zone. Maybe all the wide receivers should play in pass defense so they can chase Watkins down from behind. That's just some of the crap we watched yesterday, and stuff like this has been going on for years!!!!! I don't mind when people treat us like a joke because at this point...........face it, we are a sad and sorry joke, and I've been down that path with this team many times in my life and I'm sick and tired of being embarrassed about the team I love. If it takes a couple of talking heads like Francsa and Eisen to grab Woody, Idzik, this team, and the faction of the fan base in denial, by the collar and wake them up ,then I can't complain. How could anyone respond to defend this team. Give me a reason and I will.

The reason why the Jets are a story at 1-7 is because it's complicated and compelling.

You can take a poll if Rex should be fired and it'd be debated for days.

What 1-7 team has ever had that

The Jets are a story because the media has chosen to make it a story.  Why does the media make it a story?  Well, let's start with the local papers' circulation being down 50% or more across the board over the past five years in this instantaneousness news internet era.  Got to be loud and obnoxious to get noticed.  But that's not the whole story as the mets who were unwatchable and the Yankees who go 4 hits a game for a month and the Knicks who were a joke don't get this relentless gleeful bashing.  Second issue is the Jets are still the upstarts in this town after 50 years relative to the Giants and have never been embraced by by the old established media types who take pleasure in bashing the Jets whether they're good or bad.  Of course, it's worse when they're bad.  And of course it worse when the Giants suck too as these people like Francesa consciously or subconsciously try to deflect as much focus away from the Giants as they can in tough times.  G-Men lost two divisional games in a row looking bad and then had a 10 day off period which even Fat Cesa said would be really tough on the team.  He kisses the ground for the Jets melt down and, of course, pours it on.  The national media takes it's cue from the local media.  Does Jacksonville or Oakland get this treatment?  No,  Jets get little respect in their backyard no matter how they're playing and the media needs a vehicle to be relevant in today's social media world.  Result, inflamed stories, rants and fans.

@williamg1 The fact that all these people feel the need to even speak on this is silly to me. How many 1-win teams after 8 games get this much press?

@Brendan @williamg1 Brendan, i agree.  Its amazing how pathetic some of these clowns sound.  When teh jets won last year, it was funny how little the guys could say on the actual specifics of the game besides the d-line.  When teh jets win they usually are quiet.  However, when gronk kills someone or adrian peterson, the darling of the nfl, abuses his kid, or ray rice shoryukens his girl, no other teams cultures or foundations are mocked or joked upon.  Only reporter i like was that female reporter that went to the giants (cant remember her name i think Vrentas, but i cant remember).

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 It shouldn't be, that's my point. I don't care what city you play in, if you suck it should only be news in your city. This is part of the reason people hate the Jets, because they're talked about more when they lose and no one wants to hear about it.

@Brendan @williamg1

It's funny though.  I wear Jets shirts a lot around here in Tennessee.  It's amazing how many random people have an opinion on Rex Ryan, Geno, Vick.

The other week, the bag boy at the grocery store came out of the blue and said, "The Jets need to get rid of Rex Ryan."  I was like, yada yada.  Whatever.

Then I asked him, "Do you have a team?"

He said, "I like the Lions."

And I said, "They're fun to watch.  Do you think Megatron is going to have a big weekend?"

And he just stared at me blankly.  No idea who Megatron was...

And yet he's got, inside of his head, the name of our head coach and some opinion on his job status.  I couldn't tell you probably the name of six other head coaches in the NFL, and I feel like I read a lot of garbage throughout the week.

A lady I work with saw my Jets shirt and she said, "Oh, I only hate one team and it's the Jets."

"Why do you hate the Jets?"

"Well that coach tripped the player."

Seriously?  You hate an entire franchise because of some wing nut that made a crazy mistake 5 years ago?  It's just bizarre how infatuated people are with the NY Jets.

@Brendan @williamg1

All I know is, Eisen stated he's a NYer, and said he felt the need to address it. I don't know if he's a fan of the team or not, but it seems like he must be on some level. And his defense of Rex is spot on.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 He isn't a Jets fan. I like Eisen a lot, it's just silly that he even addresses it at all. Who is out there talking about the Raiders every hour on the hour?

t__k
t__k

@williamg1 @Brendan We're a big market team that's 20M under the cap and we're a disaster.  Of course the media is going to talk about us.  Tough to bash the media for talking about your team.  I'd rather they talk about the Jets than be the Jags and never get any pub.

@williamg1 @Brendan

Eisen is a complete buffoon.

let him go run the 40, that is what he is good for.

His jokes are old and stale...

I'm sorry.  That was a lot to read.  I hope you didn't miss any important phone calls while you were skimming it.  Maybe you can get one of your secretaries to bring you a five word summary when she gets your brunch order.

@Brendan @williamg1 It seemed like when Al Davis was alive they still got a lot of press though. I think it's an interesting situation with the GM, Owner and Players on this team....there are so many opinions on the relationship between the 3, what they should do and who's fault it is. I don't know if it's as much of how big of a disaster the season been as it is about the personalities, dynamics and responsibilities

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @williamg1 Personally, I would rather direct my anger at the management that put this team together, rather than the press.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 I'm not directing anger at the press, it's more defeated confusion. Like...why? Why the hell do you people care this much about making a certain group of people feel like sht?

t__k
t__k

@a57se @t__k @williamg1 @Brendan Could buy a corner with that type of money.  If you had a bunch of picks in last years draft we could've filled some holes too.

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @williamg1 Rex is a big part of it. Rex isn't a low-key guy. He demands press attention (see: involving himself in the press conference with Sammy Watkins).

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 But is the presser thing the reason Sammy went off? No, he went off because he's a freak athlete and really good at catching footballs.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k The Jets aren't even the biggest disaster of the 2014 NFL season, though.

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @williamg1

Whaaat??? Who said its a reason he went off???

Its Rex involving himself with the press unnecessarily. And then you're suprised they get attention from the press?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se .......are you high? He had 157 yards and a TD, and should have had two.

Hahahahaha and I'M the one with "jet-colored glasses?" Hooooly sht.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 Sorry, i misread what you were insinuating, I think.

That's just Rex's personality, that's one of the things people love about him. But the media encourages him to do that stuff, then bashes him for it. It's been like that for years. That still isn't a reason to have them getting more face time on TV than winning teams, or teams that are worse than they are.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @williamg1

It is real simple. Remember the class clown in school?

When he effed up everyone talked about it because he was always out there...Rex fosters that environment as he is the classless clown of coaches!

Oakland wasn't 8-8 last year, Oakland isn't 15 mill under the cap, Oakland doesn't have a total disaster at QB and Oakland damn near beat us at home. Jets are the story, not Oakland.. No other team would have stuck with Geno after 4 games, even Buff benched a guy picked over Geno. We are the story because inspite of the worst offense in the league turnover wise we stayed in games strictly because we had a coach who is a defensive genius and players love to play for him, and yet everyone wants to fire him. Getting Harvin was a Tebowesque move. If that moron in the front office had gotten two CBs that would have worked, but it was too late. We could have had Revis, Cro, rodgerscromartie, and still been under the cap. That's the story Eisenhower is obviously a Jet Fan. He can't say it but it showed, he was angry like we are about our team.

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @t__k

But Oakland is playing with a rookie QB and an interim coach. You should expect zero wins.

Jets are coming off an 8-8 season, and had a ton of resources during the offseason (money and picks). Maybe more resources than any other team.

To only have 1 win is certainly shocking. Raiders not having a win isn't.

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @t__k That's because they played us at the beginning of the season...

Being compared to or saying we're less of a disaster than Oakland can't be a good thing..

@Brendan @t__k

I'd vote the Falcons up near the top.  They've got an established QB, plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, and they stink.  Go pick on them, idiot reporters.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se That is "going off," you may be the only person trying to downplay Watkins' day.

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 The Raiders didn't start with an interim coach. They spend big on the offseason and were talked about like a team that could make a push for a 6 seed.

Brendan
Brendan

@roadyhorns Plus, Mike Smith makes Rex Ryan look like Bill Belichick when it comes to game management.

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @roadyhorns I'd probably rather be the Falcons than Jets right now.  Atl gets a coach and they're in the playoff convo again.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k Especially when you average over 50 yards on those catches.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Plenty of people. Most everyone picked them to finish last in the West, but not be a doormat like they've been.

Brendan

@t__k You don't watch many Falcons games, huh?

Now if you only applied that to yourself, we'd actually get somewhere.

@t__k @Brendan Eh...give me any of Nelson's 4 9+ receptions games at an avg of 126 per game for my preference of "going off"

Brendan

@a57se Still waiting for you to prove your comment is the truth. The Jets were in the media constantly before Rex was hired.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k ....you don't watch many Falcons games, huh?

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @t__k Keep those Jet colored glasses on.  They've served you so well.  Falcons are better positioned than us.  They have a QB.  It's a QB driven league.  Get with the times.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se That does not prove your comment true, if you were confused.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k They play in the worst division in football. Good for them, they lost to Geno Smith last year.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k Jesus. What does calling the Falcons a pile of sht have to do with the Jets?

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @t__k I said I'd rather be the Falcons than Jets.  They're better position than us.  You responded saying I don't watch Falcons games as if they're worse than us.  They have 2x the wins and a franchise QB and two franchise WR's....gimme a break dude.

@t__k The Falcons gave up 41 points to the Vikings

@t__k Dismissing my point because you have nothing substantial to say? Good stuff, tk.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k Stop being a child, please. You haven't proven anything. The Falcons suck, trust me, I have watched every one of their games because like an idiot I tied my fantasy hopes to Ryan/Jones.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Again going to point out I didn't once say the Jets are good, just that the Falcons suck also.

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @t__k How am i being childish?  I know they suck.  They have 2 wins.  Guess what?  we have 1 win.  We suck more.  we have no qb.  what point are you trying to argue?  I dont watch every falcons game?  you're right. I don't.  but they still suck and we suck worse.

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k You act like they're a class above the Jets because they have Mediocre Matt Ryan at QB. Their defense is putrid. They're the opposite of the Jets, basically, and their offense can get shut down just like the Jets defense can spring a leak.

But sure, keep acting like anything that isn't green is better.

t__k
t__k

Class above?  I've mentioned 3x how they both suck.  Atl has a QB.  What's a more desirable job for a coach Atl or the Jets?  Any reasonable coach picks the team with the QB..

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k A reasonable coach may pick the team where he can hand-pick the QB, because again...Ryan is wildly overrated.

t__k
t__k

@Brendan @t__k Matt Ryan is throwing 65%, top 3 in yards, top 10 in tds, 15th in rating (crappy stat, i know).

Brendan
Brendan

@t__k @Brendan Putting up yards in that offense isn't exactly impossible. He has a fantastic set of receivers. If anything he should have considerably better numbers.

His OL doesn't do him any favors, though, I will admit that. And this is my point, on the surface lots of teams are better than the Jets, but in reality some of them have deep-seeded issues that won't be quick fixes, like Atlanta with their OL and defense.
