Emmanuel Mudiay, the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2014, says there are several schools he wants to visit.
Playing at the Boo Williams EYBL stop in Hampton, Va., the 6-foot-4 point guard from Dallas Prime Prep told reporters he wants to visit Arizona, Baylor, Kentucky, N.C. State and SMU, according to Corey Albertson of Rivals.
Mudiay’s brother, Stephane Mudiay, added during a phone interview with SNY.tv that Louisville, Oklahoma State and St. John’s were also in the mix.
Among the coaches watching Mudiay Saturday at Boo Williams were Kentucky’s John Calipari, SMU’s Larry Brown, Louisville’s Rick Pitino, Arizona’s Sean Miller, Baylor’s Scott Drew and Oklahoma State’s Travis Ford, Stephane told SNY.tv.
Calipari visited Mudiay Wednesday night for a home visit.
“He said he liked big point guards,” Stephane said. “He likes his ability to go to the basket and finish and everything as a whole. He likes big point guards. He said he would like to coach him.”
He added: “We like Coach Cal, man. Obviously, he’s very successful coaching point guards. He pushes his guys. I like the way he pushes his guys and that’s the main thin I look for him in Emmanuel.”
Stephane said they would likely visit for Big Blue Madness in the fall.
“We’re planning on going early next year, maybe Midnight Madness,” Stephane said. “We will go to Lexington around that time.”
Still, Stephane said it’s far from a done deal that Emmanuel will land at Kentucky.
“He’s still considering all the schools recruiting him,” he said. “I don’t know where guys get the information that he is strongly leaning to Kentucky. People are assuming that, but it’s not the case. He likes everybody.”
SMU and Baylor are also close to where the Mudiays’ Dallas home, and so those schools will definitely receive visits, possibly unofficials.
“SMU is right down the street from us,” Stephane said. “We for sure are going to take one there. Baylor for sure.”
Stephane referred to Brown as a “Godfather” and a “Hall of Famer.”
As for Baylor’s Drew, he said he likes that he “gives you a little freedom.”
On Louisville’s Pitino, Stephane said, “I haven’t spoken to him as much. Hopefully, we get to go there next year as well.”
Stephane said he was “still getting to know” Arizona’s Miller and Oklahoma State’s Ford.
He said St. John’s coach Steve Lavin has also recently been in touch.
