Justise Winslow is going home.
The Houston native went for 13 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks and his fellow freshman Jahlil Okafor poured in a game-high 26 points with 3 blocks as No. 1 Duke handled No. 8 San Diego State, 68-49, to advance to the Sweet 16.
The Blue Devils (31-4) will face No. 5 Utah on Friday in Houston, Winslow’s hometown.
“Just when the brackets came out I knew it was a possibility of me getting to Houston,” Winslow told BlueDevilNation.net in the video below.
“But Quinn [Cook] told me there’s no getting to Houston without winning Friday end winning today, so that was my focus and the Houston thing was in the future a little bit but now that it’s here I’m excited to go home.”
Winslow figures to have numerous family and friends at the game, and a contingent of players from the Houston Hoops AAU program is also working out details on attending.
“It shouldn’t be too bad,” Winslow said. “Since I arrived at Duke I’ve tried to keep my circle very tight. I should be able to handle all that.”
FiveThirtyEight.com says Duke now has an 11 percent chance to win the NCAA Tournament, with Kentucky at 41 percent.
