Having cut his list to seven schools, Rashad Vaughn has three official visits set and is working on determining the other two.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Henderson (NV) Findlay Prep has visits set to Baylor (Oct. 18), Iowa State (Nov. 17) and UNLV (Nov. 25). He is also considering taking officials to Kansas, Arizona and North Carolina. Minnesota is the seventh school on his list, and Vaughn has already been there unofficially.

“I’m going to try to fit it in,” he told SNY.tv of his remaining two officials from USA Basketball in Colorado Springs, Colo. “I don’t know for sure which one I’m going to do, though.”

    Baylor gets the first official.

“I just got a good relationship with them,” Vaughn said. “They’ve been recruiting me for a long time. I just like how [Coach Scott Drew] lets his guards go and just the style of play they run. And they’re great guys, great coaches, so it’s good.”

After that comes a trip to Iowa State.

“The same, relationship, I got a good relationship with them,” he said. “[Coach Fred Hoiberg] lets his guards go and he’s big on shooting 3’s.”

UNLV has become the local school now that Vaughn is at Findlay Prep.

“They started recruiting me late, but they’re recruiting me hard,” Vaughn said. “Good relationship. They went to see my parents, my parents liked them. Coach [Dave] Rice lets his guards get up and down.”

Kansas is also in the mix.

“I just like how [Coach Bill Self] lets his guards go, their style of play,” Vaughn said. “Coach Self’s track record and stuff like that.”

He said he also likes Arizona for its “style of play” and for letting guards “get up and down.”

North Carolina has also heavily recruited Vaughn.

“I just like coach [Roy] Williams and how he gets up and down,” he said. “I got a good relationship with the recruits coming in next year and they’ve been recruiting me for a long time. And me being a two guard and coach Hubert [Davis] is there, I can learn a lot from him.”

Carolina pledges Justin Jackson and Theo Pinson were also at the USA Basketball camp and in Vaughn’s ear.

“Just stuff here and there, North Carolina and stuff like that,” Vaughn said.

Meantime, Vaughn is adjusting to the move to Findlay Prep and has his former assistant coach, Pete Kaffey, on staff at Findlay.

“I like it,” he said. “It keeps you focused. You either in class or in the gym and they working us hard, so I’m loving it.”

Every day in practice, Vaughn gets to battle fellow backcourt mate Kelly Oubre, who is down to Kentucky and Kansas and visited Kansas this past weekend before heading to Colorado Springs.

“Anytime we get a chance, me and him go one-on-one just to get each other better,” he said. “Anytime the coach puts us on somebody else to guard, we end up guarding each other just to get each other better.

“Going against good competition every day, day in and day out, you have no choice but to get better.”
