Seagears Awaiting Rutgers' Pitch

Jerome Seagears is awaiting Rutgers’ pitch.

With associate head coach David Cox due to meet with Seagears in North Carolina on Thursday, Seagears is curious to see how both he and Myles Mack could fit in at the Big East school.

“Hopefully they can do a good job of pitching that to me to where they can sell me enough to commit,” the 6-foot-1, 173-pound Seagears said Wednesday by phone.

The 5-10 Mack committed to Rutgers on Sept. 1, and Seagears is curious how both of them would mesh in the Rutgers backcourt. Seagears is the No. 21 point guard in the Class of 2011 and Mack is No. 23.

Asked if they could play in the backcourt together, Seagears said: “Hopefully, that’s what I’m looking for it to work out for the both of us in the backcourt. Otherwise, one of us will have to play the one.”

Seagears attends Red Springs (N.C.) Flora McDonald Academy and plays for DC Assault, where he is a teammate of Rutgers commit Malick Kone.

With the additions of Mack, Kone, Derrick Randall and Kadeem Jack for 2011, Seagears believes Rutgers’ future is bright.

“I have a good relationship with Dave and they’re turning the program around,” he said. “The program is going to be pretty elite. They’re getting a lot of elite players. They’re going to be a school to watch out for in the Big East in two years.”

While he’s clearly interested to hear the Rutgers’ pitch, he’s also considering Cincinnati, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Arizona.

“As of right now I’m undecided,” he said.
