Seton Hall picked up its first pledge in the Class of 2015 on Wednesday when Dalton Soffer, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard from Poway (CA) signed a Letter of Intent to play with the Pirates.
“We’re really pleased to add a player like Dalton,” head coach Kevin Willard said in a statement Dec. 12. “His ability to shoot the ball fits perfectly in our system and we think he’ll be an asset to the program.”
Soffer took an official visit to Seton Hall in November and called it “great.”
“The fact that it’s Big East basketball,” Soffer told SNY.tv by phone in November. “Coach Willard’s great, the rest of the staff is awesome and I really think that the team can play for a championship so I’m really looking forward to getting out there.”
Soffer averaged 20 points last season.
“Very good shooter,” said one coach who recruited him. “Below average athlete and ball-handler. Could be used as a specialist.”
Said Soffer: “They said that I fill a need for them and that’s shooting the basketball and that’s something I try to perfect so I can’t wait to do it for the Pirates.”
He initially committed to Loyola (Md.) but then changed his mind and also considered Penn and Boston University.
“Yeah, it was a rushed decision when I made that commitment,” he said. “And I was on the fence all along and I knew my heart wasn’t really in it. It was a tough process that no one really wants to go through, but I’m glad it’s all worked out now and I’m really looking forward to getting out there.”
He added: “I knew it was meant to be.”
Seton Hall now has two scholarships left for 2015 to try to complement their strong six-man 2014 class that was highlighted by McDonald’s All-American Isaiah Whitehead.
