Sheed to Have Foot Surgery, Out Approximately Eight Weeks

By JOSH NEWMAN
Special to ZAGSBLOG

SheedFor nearly two and a half months, up until Tuesday, Knicks reserve forward Rasheed Wallace had been listed on the team’s injury report with what it called a ‘sore left foot.’ Most onlookers believed there was more to the injury than that and on Wednesday afternoon, those people were proven correct.

The Knicks announced on Wednesday that new X-rays to Wallace’s left foot showed progression to a fractured left fifth metatarsal, otherwise known as a Jones fracture. Surgery is scheduled for this week and recovery time is approximately eight weeks.

“It’s a setback,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said before the team met Golden State at MSG. “He’s just gotta have the surgery and go from there.”

He added: “It’s a blow I’m sure for him mentally because he wanted to play.”

That timetable means Wallace’s regular season is over, but he will be kept on the roster in the hopes that he could return for a first-round playoff series.

“Hopefully,” Woodson said of a possible playoff return.

Woodson said the Knicks did not consider releasing Wallace outright.

Wallace has been sidelined since Dec. 13, but had played well before the injury, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game over 20 games. Wallace came out of a two-year retirement, signing with the Knicks on Oct. 3 for one year and the veteran’s minimum of roughly $1.35 million. For his career, Wallace has averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds across 16 seasons.

With Wallace out and Marcus Camby having not played sine Jan. 10 while dealing with plantar fasciitis, the Knicks went out and signed veteran big man Kenyon Martin to a 10-day contract on Saturday. Camby has scrimmaged in practice and appears close to a return, while Martin continues to get acclimated. The Knicks are home to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday evening , at the Washington Wizards on Friday evening and home to the Miami Heat on Sunday afternoon.

“Camby’s getting close,” Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said after practice on Tuesday. “He scrimmaged a little today, so we gotta gauge it and see how he feels tomorrow.

Idzik has failed us. We have too much money in cap space to not have made a move when there were plenty CBs available. That being said, our problem clearly isn't the defense. Vick has NEVER been good. His best year was with Philly. He's always had a strong arm but was never accurate with it. Geno showed that he took strides this year in his first 2 games and has regressed very quickly. Missing a team meeting is unacceptable for any player but especially the QB who is supposed to be the leader of the offense and of the team. Our problems stem from the front office down to the coaches starting with Woody Johnson. Is it possible to have a QB on your team and not have a controversy as to who is going to start? Not with Woody. Anything to make headlines. I thought the Dolphins had a pretty bad front office but ours isn't too far behind. Might be just as bad. Too much talent in last years draft at WR and we take a safety. And the first WR we take isn't even on the team anymore.

I don't expect good or even pedestrian outcomes from our next few games.  That being said the jets have to start a thorough talent and player evaluation process.  Starting with the guards.  Time for aboushi and dozier to come in.  let's see what they have and by extention how the coaches can get them ready.  Look at the giants who were having massive OL issues.  Yet consistency in coaching and scheme has bounced them back to a top OL and the offense is starting to click.  Aboushi and dozier might not be richberg and whoever else the giants have on that line but we won't know until they play.

Second time to just open the playbook up and learn what you have at the qb position once and for all.  This coddling, rex ryan HS offense with a curtailed attack simply has to be taken out back and shot.  Rex and his close game philosophy has to just be stopped once and for all.  He's just toxic in that regard.

Thirdly, move AA back to FS, put pryor in SS, milner, walls, wilson, and adams at CB.  Who stays or goes depends on how they play.

Find a Pace replacement.  Is there one here or not?  well time to find out.

I didn't mention anyone at skill position because there isn't anyone at skill position.  We simply need another 3-4 WRs added.  Top 2 stay the rest cut or sent back to the CFL where they belong.

QB is a live try out.  You'll learn if you have a starter, backup, cut, trade bait, or whatever.

We're simply not going to win more than 5 games if we're lucky.  Rex has no idea how to fix things that have been going on for 6 years now.  how can he and his merry band of fool coaches fix this mess.

Idzik can then collect the data and feed it to his next HC candidates and hire the one whose vision bests suits the team going forward.

Rex's way has been tried and failed through 3 OC, 2 DCs, 2 GMs.  He simply has to go.

There's has to be something said about your organization when you have a GM job available, when some of the better candidates for the job didn't want to come to a dysfunctional organization that would have been forced to keep the head coach.

I can't believe he would do this but it seems like Idzik wants Rex out and he knows he will stay.

He saves money for next year, brings in Dan Quinn the D coordinator from the Seahawks as the next coach. As fans we get the shaft.

The most pressing question that needs to be asked is whether there's any part of the current NYJ front office and coaching staff that deserves to be retained?

Painfully, the answer is probably 'no!'  Why go on deluding ourselves and each other.  This isn't working.   Time to strip this house down to its foundations and start all over again.   I only wish that included Woody, but that's too much to ask.

Doblemac

Everyone in the organization including the GM is at fault. As a fan I'm just tired of the ineptitude of the organization being able to find talent and a culture of winning, leadership and accountability. Every year seems like a rebuilding year. It's frustrating to hear "we're gonna work better to improve every week". The team is not good. Without any dynamic players on offense where will a spark comes from when you need it. Are they really any leaders on the team? Does anyone go the extra mile to review film, work on technique? Are they mental lapses during the game. Every game it's the same players getting called for penalties on offense and defense. I can't help but to say the same Ol' Jets.........

Idzik the brainless needs to go - that much is clear. We need to replace the entire scouting department too; pronto!

I see about 3-4 wins, Ryan getting fired, and Izdik able to pick his own coach, one who can (hopefully) effectively develop a QB.  It's pretty obvious that with Sanchez and now Smith, Ryan can't develop a young QB.  I really like Ryan, but it looks like his time with the Jets is finished.

Also, screw the Daily News for the "Bring Back Tebow"  cover.

you know whats sad? the Raiders are wondering how they lost to the Jets.

Question - is Rex the coach for the Nov 23rd game vs. the Bills in Buffalo? Especially if they are 2-8

10//12 - Broncos - Loss

10/16 - Patriots - Loss

10/26 - Bills - ???

11/2 @ Chiefs - Loss

11/9 - Steelers - Loss

11/16 - Bye week

I don't see players in positions to make plays and I think that is the coaches fault... I don't see talented players that give other players on the team opportunities to make plays and I think that's the GM's fault. I think this team stinks of poor quality all the way from the punter to the GM. I praised Rex for having a good defense and making it so that his team is still in there to win games at the end, but something needs to be said about getting off the field on 3rd down and asking non talented players to play a certain style that doesn't really suit their abilities... Then again, Rex wouldn't have his hands as full as he does if his GM was more intelligent and had brought in talented players to fill the holes in this team... Dating back to last years draft the Jets have a very good chance at hitting on only ONE of the SEVEN draft picks that we had. And our FA signing for the year was David Nelson? Then in year two with Idzik, with well over 20+ million in cap space and 12 draft picks you come away with MAYBE 1 or 2 of the TWELVE!! And your big FA signings for the year are Dmitri Patterson (no longer with the team) Eric Decker ( has been hurt all year) & Chris Johnson (arguably costing you games with his play every week). Not for nothing but Idzik's report card is atrocious so far, and unfortunately it looks like Rex is going to take the fall for it... And i don't want to hear people say "Oh well how was he supposed to know this guy or that guy was going to get injured, or play poorly like he has". Winners don't need excuses, Idzik is a looser and has been incapable of doing his job to build a sound football team. The depth on this team is a joke, scrambling for players week in and week out, the execution on behalf of the players and coaches is mind boggling... This team has completely gone off road in a direction that I don't really care where... This team needs more football minded people in the organization who can construct an ACTUAL football team who knows how to go out each week and (NOT EVEN WIN, but) play the damn game...

Isnt this about the time where we extend Geno to "lock him up"?

worst part about all of this? we will win games late in the season ,ruin draft position and some will claim moral victory..

How did this wins late last season help with momentum again?

Where do the go from here?  They go from 1-4 to 3-13 or even 1-15.  End of the year, get rid of Idzik

I like Rex but he needs to go. He needs to run a tighter ship. The team is undisciplined from the turnovers, penalties, clock management to players missing meetings and now Davis is calling out his teammates for not studying film.

Rex the untouchable one... wonder what excuse people will make for him this season... lol his QB doesn't show up to a meeting? he has zero input on anything other than defense, penalties, lack of preparation.. idk w,e

"When signing a FA, it has to be the right fit for us and them long-term" -Idzik-

How could we be the right fit for anyone? Well, if you like getting really excited, then losing, you are our guy.

Marvel

If idzik wants to build through the draft he should probably fire the GM..... exactly

rexryguy
rexryguy

idzik is the problem i think. you cant be this far under the cap, have this roster, and not be held accountable. I am all for saving money for mo, sheldon, ect. but if we designated 15 extra million a year to the side for those players we still could have signed a pretty good cb. I understand there are some circumstances with some of the cb's note revis, browner. however cromarti, drc, vernen, flowers all  would be huge on this team. Sure we may not have gotten them long term or cheap but at least rex could use his team. Instead we saved money and got a "great deal" in patterson for cheap, that worked out well. further more the draft was poor and were 5 weeks into the season. Sure, 2 or three of our picks may still pan out but out of 10 that atrocious, half the guys were cut already, if not more. On the topic of the draft,  how about drafting pryior. I like the guy and think he can be good but does it make any sense to draft a 3rd safety to move one safety to cb. Or would it have made more sense to draft a cb (fuller, denard, ect.) and keep the same safties. If you ask me milner, denard/fuller, allen, and laundry is a decent secondary. I hate to be the monday morning qb because its so easy but going into the offseason we had 3 major weaknesses. WR, CB, and playmaker on offense. our Cb's have gotten worse, our wr's seem to be the same when decker is out (signed him knowing he had a lagging hamstring injury), and our playmaker on offense was CJ2k who looks below average to be nice. I do not think QB is an issue currently but if you do, than hell he got vick and that was dumb too. vick had way better targets and a better running back last season than he does here with the jets and he still was one of the worst qb's in the league before he got hurt/benched. please comment i would love to hear peoples opinions on what I had to say (agree or disagree) and what they think may be wrong

Hard to watch... I don't think there is anywhere for the Jets to go this season.  I know it's early, but I don't see this team sweeping the Dolphins and the Bills to have a chance at the playoffs.

Wilkershakes

Keep starting Geno.  It's not a solution.  It's just the least horrible option for the foreseeable future.

Get Decker healthy, but it's not like he'll be a savior for the offense.

We are looking for someone here at the office; can someone remind me who was the firm Woody used to run the search that found Idzik?  I want to make sure we don't use them...

Start Vick and give him the 1st team reps. Marty will be able to use his whole playbook with Vick. For the past few years we have been debating whether it is the QB or the offensive weapons. Sanchez and Vick were not good barometers. Let's Vick play the rest of the year with this group.

This was Geno's first trip outside of the Eastern Time Zone. So his confusion is understandable.

Tough to answer this without knowing what the Idzick plan is.  If Idzick wanted to keep Rex, he isn't doing a good job of giving him the talent.  I think their best chance at winning games is with Vick behind center.  Letting Geno start after missing a meeting sets a bad tone.

@Marvel Not sure about that.  The Jets will be underdogs in every game the rest of the season with the possible exception at home against the Dolphins and Bills.  That is an indictment on the roster Idzik has assembled.

@buddyryan @Marvel keep drinking the cherry flavored rex aid buddyryan or is it grape flavored?  Rex has every player he's wanted with the exception of another 3 CB to play the rest of the defensive positions for him.

He's a clueless moron.  But sure blame a second GM, a 3rd OC, all of the drafts the past 6 years, 2 DC, and all of the qbs in teh past 6 years.

Rex surely had nothing to do with all of that.

is it cherry or grape?

@buddyryan @Marvel The Bills will definitely be favored in that game. Solid D, good special teams.  Maybe the D-line can knock Orton down enough to get him to throw some INTs, but Orton's a veteran.

@levi @williamg1

All teams play worse when they have to travel from east coast to west coast.  This is a problem that is older than Rex and bigger than just the Jets.  And compound that with we were huge underdogs, it is a recipe for a huge loss.  i think we could very well have troubles for the next 2 games.  But I hope we stick with Geno for the rest of the year.  Because after the NE game the schedule gets easier and I want to see Geno bounce back against them.

@williamg1 @t__k William, i get what your saying but let me ask you something, in what world do you see us being any better than 6-10 at seasons end? Hey, as I'm 62 I get our impatience but I'm just not sure how we can come close to even .500 this year and in watching yesterdays debacle i don't think we could have been competitive with Payton or Brady QB'ing for us. This roster is a certifiable mess with receivers who struggle to get open,an O-line that features three ageing vets and two cluless pretenders that can not open holes or pass block with any consistency or even refrain from committing  false start penalty's. The defense is some what solid up front but the back end is full of questions that likely have no answer's so to think we have a shot at even a .500 record much less a playoff birth seems like wishful thinking at this point. So what would the benefit be to playing a 34 year old injury and turn over prone QB who offers zero hope for the future of the team?

t__k
t__k

@williamg1 @t__k Yea, I'd give Vick the week of practice with the 1's and start him.  Inexcusable for Geno to miss that meeting, especially with how he is playing.
