On Thursday the Johnnies expect to introduce their newest signee: Sir’Dominic Pointer.
The man formerly known as Dominique Pointer has legally changed his name.
“His mama said he wanted his name to be Sir’Dom,” Tony Nolan, Pointer’s father, said by phone. “It’s supposed to be like that from jump street.
“If it was up to me he would be named Anthony,” Nolan added. “Even though I have another son named Anthony he would’ve been Anthony 2. His mom did not go for it.”
Nolan said Pointer actually changed his name “about three months ago.”
A 6-foot-5 wing from Detroit, Pointer plays for Winston-Salem (N.C.) Quality Education Academy.
Pointer chose the Johnnies over West Virginia and Michigan. Due to a technical issue with his NLI, St. John’s couldn’t announce his signing Wednesday and must wait until Thursday.
“What made me choose St. John’s was the smaller classrooms,” Pointer said last month. “I’m cool with Coach Lavin. He made me feel comfortable on my visit.”
