St. John's Offers Soumaoro

Just when you thought St. John’s had wrapped up its 2011 recruiting class with God’s Gift, the Johnnies have offered 6-foot-9 forward Daouda Soumaoro of Our Savior New American.

“Yes, St. John’s offered a scholarship,” the 6-foot-9, 218-pound Soumaoro said Saturday by text after his official visit to the campus. “I like a lot of things about St. John’s. Great coaches and good education.”

Soumaoro is also considering Iona and Texas Tech, and said he may trip to those schools next week.

A teammate of 2012 St. John’s commit Jevon Thomas, Soumaoro is considered somewhat raw offensively but has drawn interest because of his upside.

“He’s a long, shot-blocking big man who can run the floor,” one Division 1 assistant coach said. “He has a raw offensive skill-set but is capable of stepping out and shooting to 17 feet.”

St. John’s currently has nine commits for 2011, including the 6-8 God’s Gift Achiuwa, who signed this week.

If they were to add Soumaoro, that would give them 10 new players, plus returning players Dwayne Polee and Malik Stith.

St. John’s is also involved with 2012 point guard Kyle Anderson of St. Anthony and forward Ricardo Gathers of Louisiana, who will visit May 12.

The 6-8 Anderson is listing St. John’s, Seton Hall, UCLA, Arizona, Xavier, Georgetown and Florida, but has yet to officially cut his list.

“Seton Hall does the best job at recruiting me,” Anderson told Dave Telep of ESPN.com. “It’s short phone calls and [timely] when they come see me. Them and Georgetown do a great job. I speak to Coach [John] Thompson for three minutes and that’s it. Little things like that make it better.”

He said the local schools have the edge because they are closer to his home in Fairview, N.J.

As for Soumaoro, he plans to decide relatively soon.

“I will decide after next week,” he said.

I am boycotting until Dolan does something intelligent.  No TV and no money for going to the games.  I wonder if any of the fans feel as I do.   I will keep up however by  reading this blog.

Inside sources are saying Dolan will not Fire Woodson and he would rather give him an Extension

This trade is for the JR Smith, Felton, Shump and Chandler haters and for the people who wants a young PG..

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=p2mak3q

OKC gets Chandler, JR, Felton, Shump and KMart

Knicks get Perkins, Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb, Sefolosha, Collison, Thabeet & Roberson (cap fillers)

Who says no???

For the Knicks we get a young PG in Jackson to replace Felton...Sefolosha is a good defender to replace Shump...Lamb is a young SG to replace JR.  Chandler is better than Perkins, but you have to give up something for a young PG.

Here is a trade for the Lin Lovers and Melo haters..

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n75fvl6

For the record, Melo is my favorite Knick and I would be mad if we traded him.  But, I would be happy for Melo, if we made a trade like this..

Atl gets Asik and Brewer,  Hou gets Melo, Prig and KMart, Knicks get Millsap, Chandler Parson, Lin (for salary cap filler) and Montijunas.

Who says no and why????

We really need to get Melo help here...

Rondo's game tonight would fit perfectly into the Knicks play 1 pt on 0-8 from the field, guess he's gearing up for a Knicks uniform

Kidd has the Nets playing decent b-ball for every game in 2014 and they have only lost one this year.  Yet Woody with more experience can't get our team to play hard or show up in our own house.

@Tomas Zags is pretty good but the rest of them just sort of give this place a college journalism major project with Harris as the TA.

@thatsagoodpoint I like this idea. What about conley just like lobcity mentioned? I think teague would be better for the knicks though.

@Sandro Guedes Yes, but the dilemma is that nobody would trade valuable assets for a rental. Honestly the Bulls would be the best trading partner we could get but they're looking to add him via free agency. So we're stuck. And while you're right trading him would be the best option and management SHOULD want to get him at less than the full max, we all know that they won't. Melo will be a Knick next year and he will be paid the full max.

@Sandro Guedes You are sometimes real bright, who is going to take Melo if he doesn`t say he wants to play there. He has said he wants to be on the market, that means if I am a GM, I can`t take a chance on a trade because he might not stay

@zdiddy4nyk

Atlanta is not going to trade Millsap for Asik. They've already turned that one down. Asik hasn't played for a month, no way Houston gets anything of great value for him.

The Knicks won't trade Melo.

Houston wouldn't want Melo with Harden. Not enough balls for those two.

VerySilentJay

@Seth Nadler I'll take him no matter what.

Obviously, many here would find a myriad of ways to bash even a great playmaker like him.

MeloStat301

@RespectDaColor MANY posters on here should listen to Noah..rooting for your team to lose weather its for draft position or to fire a coach or trade a player, is childish and stupid, and hey they aren't a fan anyway.

tommy2b
tommy2b

Yeah that's the problem.  Melo is going to test free agency so whoever is trading for him is just getting a rental player.  And it would look horrible for the Knicks to trade him 2 years later for 25cents on the dollar.  That's why he's probably going to end up playing it out in NY.

@Tomas @tifoso6 i'd do anything to get Mike Woodson out of NY and off of my TV he's so ugly with that stupid beard.

@Sandro Guedes Only trade that can happen is Walker. Dump Chandler and JR to LA and Bring Gasol and another piece. We need to dump Felton and Bargiani too!

@MeloStat301 Got the gloves on, here we go. Why is it childish to want to get rid of DAW? He is a terrible coach. I should root for a terrible coach who has destroyed his young players and thrown most of the others under the bus to cover his gleuts? Get real man

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@Sandro Guedes If he stays, it depends on how much money he takes (as you've stated). However, if the Knicks organization doesn't show some kind of competence, they will HAVE to pay him the $130 mill for him to stay in such a dysfunctional mess. Melo and his agent know that.

I also read that LA prob won't offer him the max that they are allowed to give him.

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@Sandro Guedes From a player legacy standpoint yeah, but I don't think that's as big a deal to him. I mean for all we know that Syracuse title and Olympic gold medals might mean a whole hell of a lot to Melo and all he wants now is to be where he wants to be the rest of his life.   And maybe I'm wrong but a lot more players have a 'fvck it' attitude when it comes to winning championships these days.

Chris

@Sandro Guedes My point is if he were really interested in a team he would make it public. He is holding a gun over Jimmy`s head to straighten out this franchise IMO

@Sandro Guedes So it's only ok for you to spam my post with snarky comments? When it's done to you look at how sensitive you get. You can dish it but can't take it smh.

Just for the record, I've had this handle since Hahn's Knicks Fix. That's going back several years. Your Novak comment a few threads back in regards to my handle was completely off base. Had no idea who Novak was before he was a Knick. I'm a fan of the team 1st, not individual players. I'd move anybody if it made sense and it improved the team.

@NoVaCaInE @Sandro Guedes

Picking up his option and waiting it out a year does seem nice because he can actually see what the Knicks are going to do before committing to stay for the rest of his career. However, and I'm sure you know, it is a risk. What if he sustains serious injury...he's out of money or he loses a lot in free agency.

NoVaCaInE
NoVaCaInE

@Sandro Guedes I agree there too. I was one of the few here who called for this thing to be blown up. I also cautioned people during the winning streak that the Knicks were far from out of the woods. That the Knicks still have many flaws. This team can't win a title as currently constructed.

If it were up to me, I'd move everyone outside of Melo, Shump and Timmy. I don't see any GM that's willing to help the Knicks shed their mistakes. When Walsh did it a few years back, it came with the price of including several 1st round picks.

I also don't see any team willing to give us multiple picks back for Melo. When we traded for Melo, he was 26 and in his prime. Also, Melo wanted to be a Knick. There is no way at his age now we will receive a similar package.

I don't see Chicago and LAL being realistic teams for Melo. Can they afford him? Yeah, will they be title contenders with him? No. Kobe is old and shot and D Rose will never be what he once was. Also, Joakim Noah is just as injury prone as Tyson is. Maybe more than Tyson. There just isn't a big market right now for Melo. No team other than the Clippers makes sense for Melo. Melo should take a hard look at picking up his option for next season. Test the 2015 FA's when the Knicks can bring him back along with another Max player.
