Stanley Johnson, one of the top small forwards in the Class or 2014 and the MVP of the Pangos All-American Camp, has four of his five official visits locked in and is weighing the fifth.
The 6-foot-6 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wing told Fox Sports in the above video he will take officials to Arizona, Kentucky, Florida and Oregon. He is debating between Duke and Kansas for the fifth visit in the fall, although Duke has yet to offer.
As for Kentucky and Arizona, Johnson said: “I think it was because they recruited me the longest and recruited me the hardest and I feel like they deserve it. I want to go there and see more and I think I deserve and opportunity to get an official visit there.”
He added: “Florida is getting an official, Oregon is getting an official and the toss up is between Kansas and Duke right now.”
Johnson said he also plans to take unofficials to USC and UCLA, the local schools.
“Yes, that’s what I’m going to do,” he said. “I’m going to take unofficial officials to USC and UCLA for sure. Then I want to take five officials to the schools out of state.”
Johnson is close friends with Katin Reinhardt, who recently transferred to USC from UNLV and may now be working to recruit Johnson to Andy Enfield’s program.
“He wants to recruit me there, but for me it’s the best decision for me,” Johnson said. “For Katin I thought that was the best decision for him, but for me the best decision for me is the best decision for me. So, it could be anywhere for me.”
As for Duke, they have recently begun to recruit Johnson more actively after initially recruiting him during his freshman season. Associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski assistant Nate James are leading the charge.
Duke is also involved with 2014 wing Justise Winslow, who visited the campus last week.
There has been much talk of a three-way package deal involving Winslow, point guard Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor, with Duke in the mix as well as several other teams.
It could be that Duke is holding off somewhat on Johnson to see what becomes of that trio.
