Team Scan wing Terry Larrier made his decision Monday, choosing VCU over UConn.

The Bronx native made the call after spending time on the VCU campus this past weekend.

“Basically my relationship with [head coach] Shaka Smart and the whole coaching staff,” the 6-foot-8 Larrier told SNY.tv when asked why he chose the A-10 school. “I think he’s one of the best coaches in the country and I want to play for him.”

Ranked No. 39 in the Class of 2014 by Rivals, Larrier said, “I think I’m the highest-ranked kid to go to VCU. It shows that high-ranked can go to VCU and play for the best coach in the country.”

Larrier, who runs with Team Scan and attends the Phelps (Pa.) School, figures to be able to play and defend multiple positions at VCU.

“Basically I’m going to be a big guard,” he said. “They are a very versatile team, they like to press and get up and down. I’ll be good in that.”

Team Scan coach Terrance “Munch” Williams agreed.

“He’s going to be extremely versatile,” Williams said. “A kid that can play multiple positions, anywhere from the 2 to the 4 at VCU. He can do multiple things on the defensive size of the basketball. He can defend multiple positions, get  in the passing lanes, block some shots, make some steals.

“He’s a good passer who will make everybody around him better. He’s going to work his ass of and make sure not only he’s getting better for himself but for the team.”

Larrier considered UConn and said he liked their “history” with wings, but when asked if the decision was difficult, he said, “Not really.”

UConn continues to get close on elite players but has had a tough go of it late, missing on Abdul Malik Abu (N.C. State), Paul White (Georgetown), Josh Perkins (Gonzaga) and others.

They are still in it for JUCO point guard Jeff Newberry, small forward Devin Robinson and power forward Bonzie Colson.

This weekend the Huskies will host Louisville decommit JaQuan Lyle and Canadian forward Ray Kasongo on visits.
